As per the official calendar. Thanksgiving Break begins after last duty 22 November. Does anyone know typically what time they get out. Need to book tickets. They are already so high. Want to check if Tuesday late night flight or Wednesday early morning.

Hey USMA*DAD*2026, hope I can give you some insight on this. Your cadet’s last duty will be dependent on their schedule. Also, to note, some classes will choose to have course drops on the day before thanksgiving break, so they may be able to leave earlier than expected. Your DS or DD will be able to give you more insight after they get out of beast and have the syllabus for all their classes. Hope this is helpful, happy to answer any more questions you may have.

Also join the West Point Dads FB page and the official class page. You will have more timely & detailed answers. Some years the last class is Tuesday. But you won’t know until your cadet knows.

I would recommend that you wait until after your new cadet/plebe has the opportunity to get to the academic year and fully understands their schedule before trying to book travel plans. Our son did not have clarity on when he would likely be able to leave before Thanksgiving until a few weeks into the academic year last year. A lot will depend on what classes they have that actually fall on that date. Because the Academy has already designated Wednesday, November 23 as a "no class" day, there are less likely to be course drops on that Tuesday. For my son last year, his course drops were on that Wednesday, but he had a pretty full schedule on that Tuesday and was not ready to go until 2:00 or so that afternoon.

Also, you don't know if your cadet will be on a sports team...or anything right now. Best to wait until the academic year starts or buy something completely refundable....

DS was a plebe last year. We asked a million times "...when will you know when you get released for XXX" because we were trying to get plane tickets. Eventually he texted something like this "this is going to be my answer for the next 4 years...I will know when I am told and nothing I do can speed up my chain of command's decision to tell me"

SOOOOO....one trick is to follow the West Point Parents Club for MDDCVA...they run buses from USMA to DC...you might not need the bus--but if the bus is leaving on Tuesday, it is a Tuesday thing...if the bus is leaving on Wednesday...then you know the drill. Normally it was late Tuesday.

And if you are connected to this parents club (we are), I would highly recommend taking advantage of the bus service. It is very valuable for difficult travel weekends.

Oh like Gold! That bus service is the fastest, easiest way to get your kid to and from West Point.

Thank you for the endorsement! Our Transportation coordinators work hard to get our Cadets home safely! Our tentative schedule for the Fall Term - can be found here: https://wppc-mddcva.org/bus-reservation, if you join the Club, you receive a membership discount - you do not have to live in the area to be a member; a great option for parents located south, east or west of D.C. https://wppc-mddcva.org/membership We have one stop in Delaware, and two stops each in Maryland and Virginia along I-95.

If choosing to fly, use the Hopper app. I love it. Plug in your travel dates and airports and it will let you know when to buy the ticket. It tells you current prices and anticipated price changes.
