Class of 2027 Waitlist

A bit of a let down this weekend, since my DS got a TWE from USNA. In a way that lets us push forward and get excited for his Plan B (YAY!), but I'm reminded that he still has a chance here at his top SA choice here at USCGA. Anyone know how we can best prepare just in case he gets pulled off the list really late in the game?
Have him continue to work out and keep his fitness up, make sure his immunizations are done, schedule dentist appointment if needed, make sure you have his passport and copies of birth certificate that way if he gets called all he has to do is pack.

Thanks! Is there a list of immunizations that the academy requires? I'm trying to do this behind the scenes since 1. I don't want him to be distracted from focusing on plan b, and 2. it might inadvertently get his hopes up. I know it sounds weird because he wants to go here so badly, but it's been such a roller coaster ride so far and I want him to ENJOY this last month of high school! (Also, he's a wrestler, so staying in shape is like breathing for him 😂. It's the not getting injured part I'm worried about!)

This immunization form is from a couple years ago (class of 2023), but it should be about the same. (Except I don't know the current status on the covid vaccine requirement.) https://uscga.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/immunization-form.pdf

Here is the student handbook for the class of 2026, so you could read through this to get an idea of what else might be required: https://uscga.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/cadet_handbook.pdf

DD waitlisted also. Rough week, TWE from USNA and a waitlist from her #1, USCGA. Plan B in full steam forward but waitlist is still a lurking unknown. Does anyone know when the "last day" is to be taken off the waitlist?

I don't know if there is an official "last day", but last year quite a few were pulled from the waitlist at the very end of May.

I remember one of the last "pulled from the waitlist" that was mentioned last year was May 31st. There was an email sent out shortly after letting everyone know that the class was "closed" or full so that everyone knew. I felt like the USCGA communicated really well especially compared to some of the other SAs (most likely due to size).

Passport Question - First time passport applicant. Do we get the Regular (Standard) U.S. Passport Book? (I see the Passport Card cannot be used for international air travel, so we probably shouldn't get that one.) Thanks!

Regular. You won’t need the extra pages. And not the small card.

Awesome. Thanks! We can't get an appointment at our local acceptance offices until mid-May. Do you suggest we expedite it? (I should note we live in HI so the mailing time may be a couple days longer.)

What about the post office? We can make an appt. at ours. Don’t know the wait. Yes, expedite.

I don't think you can expedite unless you plan to leave the country in the next 14 days. I think if you do regular you can expedite later if needed.

Based on Eagle's schedule, some of the swabs will be flying to Bermuda to start their week on Eagle. The other two groups of swabs will only go to stateside ports. Since you don't know yet which group your swab will be in, you'd want to make sure your child has a passport in hand before mid-July since the first group will fly to Bermuda ~22 July. Based on expected turnaround times and then the time to get it to your swab, you probably would want to expedite if you can't get an appointment til later May.

I suspect that if your swab was scheduled to be in the first group and did NOT have a passport, that they might swap him into one of the other weeks. I'm sure they wouldn't be the only one. But that would mean they would no longer be with their platoon at that point. Plus there is no guarantee that they would be given that opportunity to swap. I know that some swabs were swapped last year due to covid or other medical restrictions.

Our post office doesn't have any available appointments until May 15. Expediting and praying it gets here! (Also still praying he will need it!! 😁)

Thank you for this helpful information! We're going to hope it gets here on time and if not, send it to him right away!! (Also praying that he gets off the waitlist so this is a happy problem! 😅)
