Class of 23 & 24 Shotgunning

Strictly a guess for this year but I'm thinking it's due to attrition; higher number of Mids choosing to leave after struggles with ISO and ROM along with the cheating scandal being the cause of a decrease in class sizes. I figure rationale is to even out the company numbers but complete speculation on my part.
I am assuming the cheating scandal you are referring to relates to the December 2020 physics exam. Did USNA ever release how many Mids were expelled due to that? It unfortunate, especially where Honor Concept values should be held in the highest regard.

I think being home last year, being at St John's this year, and being in ROM for a straight month was enough shock to the Youngsters' systems.

They'll get through it, and it probably will make them stronger leaders in the end. As much as I don't care for the decision, I am quite sure the Supe will not lose sleep because of how I feel...

I heard that '2023 enrollment is now below 1,000. Curious how many will still be there for 2/7...
What is 2/7?

I don't believe it's all been resolved. Not that I've heard or read in the local paper anyhow.

The practice has been around a looong time, with pros and cons energetically debated. DH and his company’s plebes were swapped with another company as a group, and they started youngster year in their new company. Sometimes the method completely breaks up the plebes in a company and scatters them to multiple companies. Sometimes youngsters are included.

It is a valuable life lesson about military service: the only constant is change. Semper Gumby.

It reminds me of parenting styles. A leader says, “In my day, we did X. I turned out fine. I like the pros over the cons. Let’s do X.” Next leader: “We never did X in my day. I turned out fine. I like the pros of going back to Y.” Rinse and repeat.

I think it's a needed thing. The (soon-to-be) 2/C and Youngsters need a reset. The whole academy needs a reset since they can't have a do-over. A chance to establish new relationships and new reputations.

I did not (yet) hear that intersessional leave was canceled. My wife and I were hoping for a short visit before summer training.

My interpretation of the Dant’s words today is that they are wishing they could have a do-over with the classes of ‘23 and ‘24 without covid since neither class has experienced a normal Academy year, and this is the closest thing to that effect. New company cultures will form, mids will have to re-establish themselves, and perhaps this is thought to be a way of combatting complacency. I definitely feel for the affected mids as it’s going to create a lot of stress, but I’m certain they will be fine.

That’s quite the interesting opinion from someone who isn’t a soon to be 2/C.
I'm entitled to my opinion but my DS shares yours - "you're not here" he says. But my youngster DS says if feels like a "last f__ you from the Dant" who "doesn't understand how "s__y" the last year has been for us" and it is "just a kick in the b__s" - so believe me, I get it. I am worried about 2-7 attrition in this family.

It was one of the options discussed in this household - but not seriously (I assume).

This kind of “last f___ you” is the type of premonition of future bureaucracy that would also lead to a five and dive.

I know this rumor is flying around with parents, but it is untrue. We're nearing 1000, but probably wont drop below until physics and 2/7 are sorted out.
Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to recall that there was a "tote board" at main office that showed class sizes. Almost exactly like what they use at church for hymns where you can slide the numbers in and out. Is that still the case?

.
Tote board ... the K-12 lunch menu 40/50 years ago was like that. We have a board like that in church too.
.

How rare is it for 2 classes at same time?
Never heard of it ever happening before ...but then Administration had a lot more on their mind at this point last year.

As others have noted, there are pros and cons....and frankly, I have no idea how or why the 'Dant makes the call. To some degree, I suspect it depends on the 'Dant and staff's own USNA experience.

also cancelled intersessional leave so they can 'bond'

i'm sure that nobody needed a few days away anyway....
So will they be moving companies during intercessional leave? i.e. before sea trials? I had assumed (my fault) that plebes would go through sea trials with their current companies. In all honesty, my plebe is having a hard time seeing the bigger picture right now (hopefully that will come). His two roommates have become probably the best friends he has ever had -it feels like a kick in the teeth at the end of a hard year and just when things were starting to look brighter.
