It's usually a comm decision I believe, maybe a supe decision? Either way many classes never scrambled like 2022 and others scramble at different times or multiple times. I don't feel like as a fall semester exchange cadet that it will affect the atmosphere one way or the other.Just curious what the reasons are for not scrambling. I will be going to USMA this fall for semester exchange and I want to know the atmosphere there.
I think it means they all switch squadrons and/or Roommates ???Can someone please help us newbies understand this conversation? I can't find the definition of "scramble" outside of the context of "scrambling the jets" or other military aviation situations. Thanks!
Scrambling at USMA = Shotgunning at USNA. Scrambling at USNA is when by Company, a class at USNA goes together to a new Company. I am unfamiliar with any similar event at USMA...."First, let’s define what shotgunning actually is. You may hear two terms – shotgun and scramble. Scrambling is when a company’s group of Plebes, Youngsters, etc. are moved together, as a unit, to a new company. Shotgunning – refers to scattering the all of the companies’ groups of Plebes, etc. and sending them individually to all different companies – just like firing a shotgun where all of the pellets go in different directions. Hence the name."...

So they are actually assigning upper class cadets as cadre to the companies where their new cadets will be entering after Beast? Our son didn't actually mention that goal being shared by Academy leadership. Not sure how I feel about that decision. It certainly is an interesting concept. I also have opinions about not scrambling (I am an "old grad" after all). They told us that they are not scrambling the yuks because they want to focus on unit cohesion within companies. They’re following up on this by having the yuks be beast cadre for their actual companies, so the new cadets will have experience with the cows/firsties who are their beast cadre and have some familiar faces going into the AY. Myself and most people I know really love this idea, I think the benefits outweigh the cons in this scenario. Yuks that wish to scramble and join a new company still have the opportunity to, they just need to let their TAC know that they want to scramble.
