Quick question, I'm in the middle of getting my classes for next year assigned; however, there is a conflict between my senior JROTC class and Spanish 3. According to the USNA admissions page it says that 3 years of a language is recommended.

So I'm in a dilemma, do I continue in Spanish 3 or do I continue for my 4th year in JROTC as an officer and unit leader? What would impact my application more? The extra slot in my schedule I would fill with AP Psychology.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

I found this on the USNA page. It only suggests two years of foreign language now.

General Advice for Grades 9-12

10th

If you are in 10th grade, you should continue focusing on your academics, extracurricular activities, leadership roles and taking the PSAT. 10th grades also have the ability to apply for Summer STEM. When planning your high school curriculum, you should keep the following suggestions in mind:

  • 4 years of Math: Algebra I/II, Geometry, and Trigonometry (at a minimum) and Pre-Calculus or Calculus if offered.
  • 4 years of English
  • 2 years of a Foreign Language
  • 1 year each of Chemistry and Physics (with a lab if available)
  • 1 year of US History and 1 year of World or European History
  • Computer instruction is very helpful
  • We recommend Honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate courses if offered.

Agree with Tiger, the Academy recommends at least two years, which you already have.
If I were in your shoes I would stick with JROTC because it's a great program and if you give it up you'll also be losing those leadership positions that you've worked hard to earn. From what I've seen on this forum over the years leadership is a big component of the application.
That being said, you should definitely weigh all options and figure out which you like better, which would serve you better in the future, etc.
