Hi, sorry if i'm posting a lot, but i'm just curious. Since the brigade ended today, do they start summer training right away? How does that work? Do they get leave?

They have a day of reading/studying then exams start Friday and go through next week. When they are done with their exam schedule they may have leave, may have briefs, may have other duties, or may have training. They are supposed to get at least 14 days of leave over the summer at a minimum. Most are on campus due to responsibilities they have etc., until commissioning.

The academic year is still going. As noted above, classes end, there are reading days, scheduled exams. There are also summer training briefs and briefs on other topics, getting rooms cleared out and stuff put in storage (summer STEM and sports campers, NASS, summer school, transient rooms, rooms for those doing Yard-based training, wings being prepared for plebe summer staff and plebes, etc.) Graduation marks the dissolving of the Brigade for the summer and everyone’s promotion to the next rank.

Some mids might get a few days of “inter-sessional leave,” depending on when their exams end and what responsibilities they have. It’s not a formally scheduled leave period.

Academic Boards are also ongoing, evaluating midshipmen who are not performing satisfactorily, making retain/separate decisions.

Some midshipmen might have Zero Block training, which begins immediately after exams. Block 1 starts right after graduation, followed by Block 2 and Block 3 -and then it’s time for Reform of the Brigade again.

Who serves on the Academic Boards? Thanks.
The Heavies. Supe. Dant. Academic Dean. Asst Ac Dean. DepDant. This is weighty business.

They and others are ranged around a long table. The mid sits in a chair facing them. Along one side sits the BattO, Company Officer, SEL If they still do it the same way, screens with trend analysis of grades, enlargements of professor’s comments “Midn Door failed to come to Extra Instruction even though I suggested it early in the semester,” (rut row), chain of command input, “Midn Door seemed to struggle with many aspects of adapting to midshipman and military life, and perhaps another path is best for him/her. Recommend separation.” - or more positive, supportive comments - are ranged around the room. After the Board deliberates and decided, there are Chaplains available, if not a good verdict, as well as academic advisers prepared to work with a retained midshipman to change majors, re-work matrix, organize summer school courses, etc., in essence, a recovery strategy.

Now, for plebes who are otherwise doing fine, just struggling in Calc or Chem, a more streamlined Academic Review Board happens, and usually the plebe’s summer schedule is adjusted for them to go to voluntary summer school, see if their brains grow back.

How are they scheduled? Is each class/subject have it's own day for exams?

Thought today was mandatory study day. 🤔
I could be wrong, it's happened once before ;). Honestly, about 3 years ago I decided to just have him tell me things when he felt like it, I can barely keep up with my own schedule, his is crazy, I don't have time for that!!! :)

I know the wifey called the dude today to ask about what he'd like to send out to the neighborhood email for work requests to make a few extra bucks during his leave block, and he was in the middle of a study group. :p

As someone who has first hand experience with this… as a participant facing all these leaders… it’s not fun. Luckily, I only went to one, figured things out and found my footing.
