At a recent visit to Clemson the financial aid office told us that my son would not get a merit scholarship if he got an ROTC scholarship because ROTC scholarship recipients get in state tuition. This didn't make much sense to me and looking on the Clemson ROTC website didn't shed much light on this. Anybody have any info on this?

Sounds like they don't award additional merit to ROTC winners. You'd need to do the math and see if it makes more sense to use the rotc scholarship for R&B then, if it's more than instate tuition.

Keep in mind that doesn't preclude your DS from bringing in outside scholarship money - you just won't get it from Clemson.

Always ask if schools allow the stacking of scholarships. Univ of Alabama, for example, allows it. Students can receive full (or partial) merit scholarships and combine that with their ROTC scholarships.

The rules may have changed, but my DS is an AS400 Cadet on a Type 2 AFROTC scholarship with a full OOS Merit Scholarship. When he was going through the application process, we were told by the Cadre that the Clemson Corp did offer some ROTC Cadets instate tuition, but have never heard that all ROTC Cadets are offered instate tuition. He has not had any issues receiving his merit scholarship.
