US MILITARY ACADEMY INFORMATION DAYS
Attendance at a Federal Service Academy is the equivalent of up to a several hundred thousand dollar scholarship. The application process can start as early as the junior year in high school. The five Federal Service Academies are the US Air Force Academy, the US Military Academy at West Point, the US Naval Academy, the US Merchant Marine Academy, and the US Coast Guard Academy. The application process is not necessarily hard, but it is complex. In addition to completing an application to the individual academies, students notionally also need a Congressional Nomination (except for the Coast Guard Academy). The Colorado Congressional Nomination applications are due in either September or October of the senior year in high school. Of note, students can apply up to age twenty-three and many freshmen at the Academies have college experience.
Additionally, the Admissions Offices at the Service Academies strongly recommend that students apply in parallel to the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) options.
Representatives from the Federal Service Academies, the Senatorial Offices, the geographic location appropriate US Representative Offices, and ROTC (Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps) will be in Grand Junction at Colorado Mesa University on April 1st, at Fort Morgan High School in Fort Morgan on April 15th, at Denver South High School on April 22nd, and in Durango at Durango High School on May 6th to make presentations and talk with interested parents and students.
Fliers for the fist three events are attached.
