Interesting article in todays Washington Post- It's rather odd to me that MG Flynn released this thru a think tank for publication rather than as an internal document. But it's an interesting "charge" - maybe not the right word as it's not really a charge as much as it is a change of focus. The intel guys have been focusing on the combat capabilities of the taliban as opposed to looking at the causes and indicators of an insurgency. A lot of this is basic stuff that the PRTs should be reporting (and I believe are)- who is the primary mover and shaker in this district/village etc.. Have any new shops opened/closed etc? It gets to the heart of a counterinsurgency operation - which is population driven not combatting enemy forces driven (although that doesn't disappear as an objective- it's just not the primary focus for success.) Interesting reading
