Does anyone know anything about the Combat Shooting Team? My DS thinks they will evaluate marksmanship In the tryout. What I could find on the forum says mostly its super hard physical and mental tryout to see if he’s the type of guy they want on the team. Only one person mentioned marksmanship.

Iassume they can teach him to shoot later and know people aren’t already master shooters coming into USAFA.

Does anyone know anything about the CST? Thanks.

Being on a JROTC marksmanship team I'm interested in the USAFA rifle team. I know enough that I'm most likely not ever going to be on the NCAA D1 team. It's a recruited sport at USAFA that attracts Jr Olympians, which I'm not.
CST is more of a club sport. I'm sure marksmanship will be part of the evaluation with mental and physical. From what I can tell they compete with other teams around Colorado Springs and other SAs.
I guess what I'm saying is that the assumption no one will come to USAFA with shooting skills is not accurate. It's still worth trying out. If given the opportunity I'll try out for the D1 team with no expectations of actually making the team.

CST tryouts are a pretty intense beat down. If there’s any marksmanship it’s in the very last stages and relatively insignificant. Most CST guys have SW aspirations and run their tryouts like it. I know guys who are legit SW selects who didn’t make it.

It depends on the cadets running the team. In the past, it was a mental/physical tryout that included some shooting. Theory was we can teach people to shoot, but was want to select teammates that are hard workers and team players.
The competition side is mostly 3-gun and ipsc style events, vs the NCAA Olympic small bore type.
