Competitive district question

Your kid would have gotten in even if he was from our area!

Mine didn't even get in with an LOA because of no nom. :p
Frankly I doubt I was appointed from the slate. Everyone had an LOA. It was the ROTC nomination or USNA found one somewhere.

If I had lived just a street down, I would've had a much easier time.

Funnily enough, USMMA was lacking applications that year. I was offered a USMMA nom but declined.

Yeah, well, apparently, it does not matter at all. CFA is a pass or fail.
I find it hard to believe that somebody who maxed out the CFA completely would be awarded the same amount of candidate scoring points than one who barely made the cusp. That is just my opinion and although academics are paramount ,physical aptitude is an important factor as well.

I don't know what the rest of the people on this website will say, but I strongly urge people against spending time trying to figure out everything about this process. It will eat you alive, and you will be distracted for the entire cycle. If you have no control, please do not worry about it. I say this because I was there. My first application I did the exact same thing. If you're a senior, just enjoy the best year of high school, and please do not let the SA's hang over your head. Good Luck!
Anom, I sincerely, sincerely hope to be your classmate this summer. I know a guy IRL on his 3rd try who I'm really rooting for too. 3rd times the charm!

Pretty easy for USNA to fix physical fitness. Think about all the Plebes that think they can attend the undergraduate institution of the Navy without knowing how to swim, and yet that's never a problem.

Much harder to fix deficiencies in academics, character, or leadership potential.

To everyone speculating about the CFA javascript, I highly suspect that the score displayed in the source code is accurate and that it's out of 600. I dont think that hitting the average from your gender on each event would earn you a 300/600 however, and I also don't think that 300 is failing, but what do I know.

I scored a 339 this year, but last year I was still considered 'qualified' according to my portal despite being FAR worse on neary every event than this year, which theorhetically suould have put me way south of 300 last year. I wish I could check the javascript for my 2027 app, but it's gone from my portal.

For anyone (no one) wondering, my CFA comparison this year to yesteryear is:
42ft --- 55ft
4pullups --- 8pullups
9.6sec --- 8.6sec
88situps --- 82situps
18pushups --- 42pushups
6:02 --- 5:57
???/600 --- 339/600

And both years were considered 'qualified'... so dont worry too much.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement, yet I do think that candidates who display exceptional fitness scores are rewarded in some way. It just does not make sense to me that the point totals would be equivalent for all maxed out or all borderline passing.

It's just one test. Far more prudent to look at a candidate's varsity sports participation, for example.

It SHOULD be a problem. To be frank, I find it a little disgusting people are accepted that can not swim. That is just my opinion. I know I will get hate for it, but I mean, COME ON, you are trying to be a military officer. If I were enlisted and I watched my CO flailing around in the water like a bird, I would not want to take orders from that person.

I respectfully disagree. It is not fair to judge a person's athletic capability off of school sports because some schools do not offer the same sports others do. A fitness test levels the playing field and is literally a perfect test of someone's fitness, although I think the basketball throw is VERY dumb.

The reason for the basketball throw will remain a mystery

LMAO

My son entered the naval academy not being able to swim.

He was also a valedictorian, highest GPA in his school’s history, 3 sport starting captain, maxed the CFA (except basketball throw - which is odd, he has Steph Curry range).

He graduated USNA with distinction, and was a valedictorian in a Naval school.

He is now getting his scuba license. And is training for buds 1 for dive school. He works out harder than he did at Academy. Runs marathons.

He has hit the pass score for swimming for dive school and is going to be at max when he tests.

If admissions thought like you, he would be a lawyer right now working long hours for a top firm.

We are thankful for their criteria.
