Competitive Slate Question

I have read through the FAQ sticky, and found something similar, but my scenario is a bit more specific. I know that my MOC (who I received a WP nom from) has 2 slates for WP this year, and that my MOC goes with a competitive slate. One of my buddies in the same district as me has LOAs to Naval and WP and noms to Naval from MOC and Senator and a nom to WP from MOC. Does this mean, since he has an LOA, he will automatically win one of the WP slates, even if he plans to pursue Naval and not WP? (he is 3Q already)

No, not automatically. This is one big puzzle, and some of the last pieces put in are where appointments get charged to.

If your friend has a USNA LOA which has a requirement of a nom to satisfy the LOA’s requirement, and if he is 3Q, his name on the slate means he has a nom. His job is done. It’s up to USNA to figure out where to charge his appointment.

The exact same thing applies for USMA. If he has an LOA with a condition of a nom, if he is 3Q, and his name is on the slate, he should get an offer of appointment. It’s up to USMA where to charge it.

There will be appointments charged to each elected officials’ available seats. Others on those USNA and USMA slates who are 3Q with a nom could also get offers of appointment charged elsewhere - other noms, the VP, JROTC, Service-connected, the discretionary Superintendent noms, or chosen from the national pool through that authority.

Competitive means USMA determines the order for that MOC’s slate of ten, or in this case, two slates of 10.
