Completely denied?

Today I got a letter that I was fully qualified for admission but was not offered appointment due to limited class size. Have I been completely denied and taken off of the NWL?

I assume that if you didn't get a letter/email of denial. That you were still fully qualified. I would 1) get in contact with someone from admissions, and explain your situation, and 2) I assume you may be put on the waiting list, take this with a grain of salt though, until you hear something concrete, from another official source.

Did the letter specifically state that you would not be offered an appointment? If so, you are still on the NWL, but admissions has reached a determination that it is very unlikely you will be appointed this year.

It probably means that slate winners have accepted their appointments for whatever slates you were competing on, your WCS score was not high enough to win an appointment as a Qualified Alternate, and there are not enough appointments in the Additional Appointee category for you to have a reasonable chance.

When possible, admissions tries not to keep candidates hanging in suspense when they have little chance for an appointment and they tend to error on the side of caution. Very rarely do they make a mistake and go back to a qualified, but denied candidate and offer an appointment, although it has happened.

TWE's are usually not ambiguous. If it is unclear, contact your RC for clarification, and if you plan to reapply next year, ask for feedback on how to improve your application..

Yes it says that I will not be offered a place in this years class. I emailed my RC on how I can improve for next year, thanks for the help.

If it's your dream, then it's time to evaluate. Did you have good backup plans or are you just looking to apply next year? What is that plan to get better, if you share your stats maybe someone can provide some guidance. Also, if you're looking to "self prep" to apply again next year, you need to look at a strategy. Are you looking at a Greystone Prep Academy or something like that? It's literally less than 20k for the year of college there (and it's not wasted school year, the credits transfer if you end up going to another University) and you can join ROTC in college to help, and lots of stuff.

Last year my DS was denied in early April, he was fully qualified but there were not enough slots. Fortunately he had accepted a 4 year ROTC scholarship. About 10 days later he was offered an AOG Civil Prep Scholarship, we had no idea what that was and had to do some quick research. There are a number of posts on this forum that cover this opportunity, you may want to investigate so you are ready if one comes your way.

I received the same letter this morning. The first paragraph read

“The admissions office has received all your information and the Admissions Committee has reviewed your application. You have been found fully qualified for admission, but unfortunately due to limited class size, I regret to inform you that we will not be able to offer you a place in the entering class for the United States Military Academy this year.”

Sorry, you are done with this cycle. That letter is Admissions' way of trying to be nice. Yes, you 3Qd, but your WCS not high enough to be competitive on the NML or otherwise. If you have the right FF Rep, they should be able to give you a frank assessment of where your file stacked up against your peers - if you ask for it. If not, bug your RC - but in my neck of the woods, I am best positioned to give my candidates strategies on how to improve their files for the next one or two cycles...

Sorry to hear that guys; did you guys check the portal and if so, did the portal say the same?

thx for that, my kid is in the process, would u mind sharing ur stats like gpa and sat?

I've got a 4.85 gpa, rank 11/285 in my class, all honors and ap classes, I'll be graduating hs with my associates degree, class president, student council, national honor society, multiple leadership programs, 3 yrs varsity tennis (would have been 4 but covid), 27 ACT composite, 1190 PSAT (didn't take SAT) + 2 nominations

My cfa was a little worse (female) - 4 pull ups, 47 meter bball throw, 28 push ups, 72 sit ups, 9.2 second shuttle run, 9:40 mile

My back up is to attend Purdue University and apply next year (wasn't able to meet the deadline for ROTC scholarship)

Thx again for ur insight....we r still holding tight.....u have great stats and I wouldn't b surprised if they offered u prep school....

I am so sorry to hear this, how disappointing as your stats look great. Check out ROTC Purdue even without the scholarship and apply from there again if WP is your dream. (Or get a ROTC scholarship for the remaining years).Reapplicants have a good chance, your CFA will probably improve greatly with all the PTing, the application won't be as intensive as some carries over and you are now experienced with it. And you should def get the ROTC nom. No matter what, Purdue is a great school! There are different roads that lead to your goals! Best of luck to you.

So sorry to hear this. As I was responding to you my son just came downstairs and told me he got the very same letter just now. Big disappointed sigh. Onward.

Your profile looks very impressive. There are 2 things that stand out as needing improvement.

ACT
Mile run

I think these 2 items on your application dented your WCS.

I think your (relatively) low ACT/SAT along with your (relatively) slow mile time took you out. Everything else was pretty strong, but it doesn't take much to knock you out these days with so many qualified applicants.

Plan B, reapply or do whatever you think is best, just do not give up and best of luck to you!
