I know cadets are issued a laptop computer. How do cadets upgrade their laptop systems? Monitors, Keyboards, Docks? Is it best to mail, or purchase items a PW? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

The room I stayed in for orientation had all of those. It was after recognition though so I don't know when exactly you are allowed to have each but it's probably by squadron basis.

Docks and full-size external keyboards are included in what is issued to every cadet. An external HD monitor (up to 24") is something that is allowed after Acceptance Day (but could be squadron dependent; we took our cadet his Acceptance Day and got a text from him on our drive home that he had hooked it up and it was AWESOME). Printers are yours to get on your own. Squadron ones are provided but I understand they aren't functioning that often. Just get a small printer/copier/scanner combination and get extra printer cartridges.

Yup, you're right on. Everything that you need will be provided to you, but I would definitely find out what your squadron's rules are regarding fourth-class cadets and monitors, since that is a great convenience item. Every squadron will allow personal printers, but computer speakers will have to wait until after Recognition.

does the cadet store carry printer cartridges and if so what kinds or is it best for them to just order replacements online

The cadet store carries many different kinds of cartridges, but my DS always orders his online.

i don't think there is a comprehensive list of what the cadet store carries, and it could always change. So probably better to choose the printer and then if they carry the cartridge great, and if not. it can be ordered online, probably for less money.

2013 was issued:

Tablet PC
Extra internal battery (Swaps with CD Drive)
2 Charging Cables
Port Replicator (Docking station with a bunch of USB ports and charger)
Wired Mouse
Wired Keyboard (I threw it away, didn't like it)
Swiss Gear Laptop bag

What I bought:
Wireless Mouse
Printer/Scanner/Copier combo
23" Monitor
Speakers

I buy my paper from the Cadet Store and my ink online.

I pretty much buy everything online now - it is far cheaper than AAFES (BX, Shopette, C-Store), which basically charges extra for every product they offer. I've never shopped online so much before and I've never seen a store with such expensive merchandise before.

You just need to compare prices. AAFES has some very competatively priced stuff, but also some not-so-competative prices.
