Congrats USMA Class of 2021

Such a great day! Do the newest Army second lieutenants report immediately to their posts or is there a brief transition period?

Do the newly commissioned 2nd LT's leave USMA straight after graduation? Do they stay in barracks that night?

They are immediately dismissed from WP and are not permitted to stay. If memory serves me right I believe my 2017 DS moved out of his room completely by 4 or 5 am graduation morning. They get dressed early for graduation, they have waffles and ice cream for breakfast and then wait a couple of hours for the ceremony. They will have individual commissioning ceremonies that afternoon and then WP is in the rearview mirror.

There are a few who stay on for details for a few weeks or more. But they still have to move out of the barracks.

It was a mostly perfect weekend!
Only complaint we had was WP cancelling the livestream for Friday night banquet. Typically parents could attend in person. This year it was Cadets only. So the Thayer, Firstie and maybe some other places offered a banquet for families and were going to livestream it as if “we were there with them “.
Thayer was kind of pricey at $75 a plate, but we bought a table for our family , got dressed up , and went anyhow. Some WP moms compiled a nice picture presentation that they played for us in place of the livestream. Just can’t understand why WP dropped the livestream….
Being on the field after the hat toss with the “old grads” was a truly amazing experience.
They all have such amazing missions ahead of them! Glad to have mine home for a few weeks before he takes off.

I think the feeling was that this made it more intimate with the Cadets, and speakers could be a little more frank and open without fear of something appearing immediately on the Mom’s FB Page.
