Does anyone know if/ how being awarded a "Principal" Congressional nomination is communicated?

Typically like all other nominations. In my son's case, the letter indicated he was the principal nominee. I think it also showed up on the portal, but I'm not 100% clear on that.

I don't know about USNA, but USAFA does not show what type of nomination you receive. It just says like received nomination and from who if that helps in any way.

Our DS was the principal nominee for an AZ Senatorial nomination and it was explicitly stated in a letter he received from the Senator's office.

The only way you know if you are a principal nomination or what type of slate your MOC submits is to ask the MOC.

Thanks everyone for your responses. One additional question then: His Congressional/Senate nomination carries a number "2" in the nomination source. Any advice as to what that represents?

Some Senators coordinate their nominations to spread the joy and they will not double nominate one candidate. That is the case in my state. You only need one nomination to win. Best of luck.

Kent County. However we did already get letters of nomination from Stabenow and Huizinga.... That's why we're confused about the "2" on his USNA app. page

Might indicate two nominations. One from Senator and one from Representative? Daughter had two nominations but I can't remember if her portal had "2". Our state Senators also stagger interviews and ask that you withdraw your nomination request if the first Senator gives a nomination. State Representatives do not coordinate with Senator's office. Two means more chance of appointment. Good Luck.

That means that of the two senators (1 being with more seniority in Senate, and 2 being the junior senator), you received the nomination from senator no. 2)

Interesting as we have a letter and Congressional Nomination Certificate from Debbie Stabenow who is No. 1.
I guess they traded off?

Your congressperson/senator may or may not decide to tell you whether you received a primary/principal nomination. It is their decision. In some cases they may decide to not even select a primary or principal nomination, and rather present a group in no particular order. In other cases, they will present a single primary nomination and the rest as a group in no particular order, and in a final case they may present the group in a particular order (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.). This decision is up to your congressperson or senator.

Ok, I'm glad your son got his MOC nomination but I'm relieved that it's Huizenga, not Amash if you think it's a Principal nom :) I don't know if Huizenga does a Principal nom, many (most) don't. DD was nominated by Amash but I don't know if he did that this year. I told her she could probably ask but she says if it doesn't matter at this point, she doesn't want to know.

Sincerely wish you the best of luck. Maybe we'll all rub shoulders in Annapolis. Here's hoping
Yes, that would be great. Does your pic mean you are/were career Navy? This is our family's first exposure to the SA's, even our school counselors can't remember when the last kid applied so we had to do our own research and lead them through it with us. Now, it's just the hard waiting. Does your son have Plans B-whatever lined up?
