Hello everyone,

I just wanted to make sure about how nominees are appointed. Each congressional district nominates a certain number of candidates to each academy and then the academy only chooses one candidate from the whole slate, right? Or are there times where the academies appoint more than one candidate from the same slate?

Also, I just got scheduled an interview with my congressman but I will be out of town that same weekend on a trip that was planned pre-Covid. Might have to cancel the trip... though the office did offer a phone interview. I do feel like not showing up to an in-person interview would negatively affect my overall evaluation...

If you haven’t read the Sticky note pinned to the top of the Nominations forum, I recommend it.

If you skim recent posts in the nominations forum, you will see similar questions. Here are the basics.

Elected officials can have 5 appointees at each SA (USCGA does not need a nom) at any one time. That typically means each class has 1, but one class might have 2. Depending on how many graduated this past May, 1 or 2, that is the number of appointments that can be charged to that elected official for the next cycle.

The elected official can submit a slate (list) of up to 10 for each of their vacancies.

One of the fully qualified individuals on that slate will have their appointment charged to the official. If there is another slate, ditto.

The DOD SAs can also choose other fully qualified individuals from that slate and offer them an appointment, per guidelines, and those would be charged to a nominating authority they manage. I am not as familiar with his USMMA manages these.
