I have a 3 year National army scholarship, I’ve started my second year of school already. I am currently contracted, I was wondering if I would still be able to transfer my 3 year scholarship even if I am contracted and how that would work. I want to transfer to a university that has an army rotc back at home.

First, thanks for your interest to serve and congrats on starting your 3 year scholarship. A transfer of an active scholarship would have to be approved by both your current and desired units. Also you can apply to your goal college and see if you get in. Are they in the same brigade, or different regions of the country? Is one school vastly more expensive than the other? Search the board and you'll see examples where this was approved and search the internet and you'll see examples where this was denied. Were you awarded the 3 year in HS, or did your unit award it to you when you "picked up" after your freshman year? Bottom line - possible, requires permission, may not be an insta-approval, but talk with your chain of command about your options. Be sure to be complimentary about your current unit when describing your desire for change - it's not them - you love them, but the other school has a stronger program in my major or something like that. Good luck and let the board know how it works out/ what you learn as you move through the process.

Right, knowing that it is possible to transfer even if contracted gives me hope. I have received my scholarship in high school. I’m not sure what the battalions are but I doubt they are in the same since home is Louisiana and I go to school in California. For a fact, the university I go to now is pretty expensive, about 70k or so a year, while the university I am looking is about 60k, however a second choice is about 30k, both back at home.

Some information as well, I’ve actually done the process, got all my paperwork, signed off, my packet was ready to be submitted, but this was before I contracted. So I don’t know how it is now since I am contracted. The reason why I did not chose to transfer was because I did not do enough research on the other schools degree program requirements. If I had transferred, I would have to do another year of college. Upon realizing that, I bailed out, but looking at it again, I think I am willing to do another year of college for my own sake. If this helps.

Yep - different brigades. Good luck and keep us posted as you explore options with your COC.
