DS got DQ-ed for D155.70 - refractive error > -8.00 diopters s.e. and it is a Single Disqualification. No idea what does single mean - single dq issue, or single entity to report since AFROTC is the only program DS applied and got the scholarship?

I feel the exam was rushed (less than 10min) and the result might be for 20/15, as his current glasses are less than -8.0. DS emailed DoDmerb for a copy but no response yet. Just called the doctor but she refused to give any info on the test (claimed it is classified). Considering to bring DS back to this doctor for a re-check, as the doctor promises to give us the result if we schedule a comprehensive exam with her. DS has very healthy eyes except high myopia and some astigmatism.

How long does it take to get a copy of the exam from DODmerb? Will the copy/result be sent in email or smail? Will AFROTC waive slightly-over-8.0-case without submitting a comprehensive exam? If a comprehensive exam is needed, how fast do we need to provide it to AFROTC before it issues a waiver disapproval?

Imagine even if 1% of the government agency could operate as DoDmerb or Mr. Mullen's team! My vague post triggered a phone call to investigate a potential delay of his team. Not only did Mr. Mullen not get mad when he found out everything was normal, he patiently answered our questions even though we did not deserve to get them so quickly on a weekend. My bad for ruining a long/relaxed weekend that everyone, including Mr. Mullen, deserves. He is truly a godsend.

Ma'am - Thanks for your Suffolk County sense of humor. Though it's been 48 years since I lived in Nassau, the LI county rivalry remains for this Old Man!!! Not only Counties, but North vs South Shore to boot. It's our honor and privilege to serve

My son isn't one to comment on everything but he said the whole eye exam felt unprofessional. I thought maybe he could ask for an exam with a different provider. He brought it up to me, it wasn't just his response to my 100 mom questions after he came home from something.

Share an update to help others with similar situation. DS' myopia s.e. on one eye exceeded the requirement by 0.25 based on the subjective refraction of the DoD contracted doctor! Based on other posts about AF's sparse on waivers, I told DS to prepare to give up and focus on plan B. Surprisingly AFROTC actually initiated a waiver process (get a DFE to rule out posterior pathology) through DoDmerb a couple of days after DoDmerb rendered the DQ. Quickly found an earliest ophthalmologist appointment nearby. As expected, the eye doctor confirmed that DS' eyes are healthy and provided a report to DoDmerb. Now waiting for waiver review by Air Force (or perhaps DoDmerb?) doctors. Finger crossed for the rest of the waiver process!
