Counselor verification of Extra-curriculars

How do they verify ECs with the counselors? Do they just send an email to the address the candidate provides in the SSK?

My cadet had his extracurriculars verified by his MALO when he had his interview. His guidance counselor knew what he participated in also since she had him for 4 years.

I'm going to SLS and I heard they have a cadet do the MALO interview there. How else would they confirm my ECs?

There's a part of the candidate activities record that after you submit, listing all your activities/accomplishments, you provide a contact (generally a guidance counselor) that will receive an e-mail to verify your EC's
