Couple Questions About The Application Process

I have applied to West Point Class of 2029, as I am currently a Senior in highschool in Connecticut (2nd district I belive).

I have been 3Q (triple qualified) and received two Congressional Nominations, one from Blumenthal and the other from Courtney. I am an Eagle Scout, with a 4.2 weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted), 3 season athelete, a part of my schools Student Council / Government, and have an SAT score of 1340 (I have only taken it once, hence my question later on in this thread). I have not received an LOE or LOA (at least not yet).

I am interested in how the application process works for my slate/district. Does USMA admit a certain number of people from each district based on nominations (and obviously if they are qualified or not)? Or do they pool all application to compete against eachother? I understand admissions is a long and complex process, but I would like to grasp my chances of being accepted.

Another item is my SAT score. I understand that my score is decent, but looking on forums I think it should be better. I have an opportunity to retake them on March 8th, with the sign-up deadline being in mid February. So my question is should I schedule it now, or wait to see if I am accepted first? If I am accepted, before the sign-up deadline, should I still bother retaking it?

Unsure if this has any value to the app. proces, but I have been on a tour, and my interview with my Feild Force Rep went very well, and they have mentioned to me that I provided some very thoughtful responses that they have not heard before. I have also spoken with the head coach of the Track and Feild team (he called my personal number actually) about possible recruitment to their team, assuming I get accepted and continue to improve my times in my events as the outdoor season rolls around.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any info is greatly appreciated!

Go read the pinned post at the top of the Nominations forum.

See a reply I made to a similar question in a similar recent thread:

Post in thread 'Appointment Process Question'

Think of each nom category as a bucket of applicants who have that nom. The fully qualified applicants compete with each other for the appointments available to that nom category. With multiple noms, you compete in each of those buckets. It can be a small bucket - MOC slate - or a national bucket. If you have read the pinned post, this will make sense.

There is no way to gauge your chances because we don’t know what your fully qualified competitors in your nom buckets bring to the table.

if you are offered an appointment before you are closed out for the next SAT, then I would probably let it go, since you have been told you are fully qualified. I truly don’t know if a higher SAT score moves the needle that much. I would be interested in what others think. Much would depend on if you have been accepted to your alternate plan schools or not, and you think the SAT might help a bit.

Keep in mind every years there are hundreds of fully qualified candidates with nom(s) who are not offered appointments. There as simply not enough room n the class.

Focus on what you can control.
Tend alternate plans.
Excel in current academics and activities.
Be present in the here and now. This is a time in your life rapidly drawing to a close.
