Couple Questions About The Application Process

I have applied to West Point Class of 2029, as I am currently a Senior in highschool in Connecticut (2nd district I belive).

I have been 3Q (triple qualified) and received two Congressional Nominations, one from Blumenthal and the other from Courtney. I am an Eagle Scout, with a 4.2 weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted), 3 season athelete, a part of my schools Student Council / Government, and have an SAT score of 1340 (I have only taken it once, hence my question later on in this thread). I have not received an LOE or LOA (at least not yet).

I am interested in how the application process works for my slate/district. Does USMA admit a certain number of people from each district based on nominations (and obviously if they are qualified or not)? Or do they pool all application to compete against eachother? I understand admissions is a long and complex process, but I would like to grasp my chances of being accepted.

Another item is my SAT score. I understand that my score is decent, but looking on forums I think it should be better. I have an opportunity to retake them on March 8th, with the sign-up deadline being in mid February. So my question is should I schedule it now, or wait to see if I am accepted first? If I am accepted, before the sign-up deadline, should I still bother retaking it?

Unsure if this has any value to the app. proces, but I have been on a tour, and my interview with my Feild Force Rep went very well, and they have mentioned to me that I provided some very thoughtful responses that they have not heard before. I have also spoken with the head coach of the Track and Feild team (he called my personal number actually) about possible recruitment to their team, assuming I get accepted and continue to improve my times in my events as the outdoor season rolls around.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any info is greatly appreciated!

Go read the pinned post at the top of the Nominations forum.

See a reply I made to a similar question in a similar recent thread:

Post in thread 'Appointment Process Question'
https://www.serviceacademyforums.co...pointment-process-question.98496/post-1063437

Think of each nom category as a bucket of applicants who have that nom. The fully qualified applicants compete with each other for the appointments available to that nom category. With multiple noms, you compete in each of those buckets. It can be a small bucket - MOC slate - or a national bucket. If you have read the pinned post, this will make sense.

There is no way to gauge your chances because we don’t know what your fully qualified competitors in your nom buckets bring to the table.

if you are offered an appointment before you are closed out for the next SAT, then I would probably let it go, since you have been told you are fully qualified. I truly don’t know if a higher SAT score moves the needle that much. I would be interested in what others think. Much would depend on if you have been accepted to your alternate plan schools or not, and you think the SAT might help a bit.

Keep in mind every years there are hundreds of fully qualified candidates with nom(s) who are not offered appointments. There as simply not enough room n the class.

Focus on what you can control.
Tend alternate plans.
Excel in current academics and activities.
Be present in the here and now. This is a time in your life rapidly drawing to a close.

Any news yet?

Not yet, as far as I know (from acquaintances that also applied within CT), no one from CT has been offered an appointment yet. They must not have gotten to us yet haha.

As I've learned more about this process, it seems that most decisions with come out late-march to mid-april, atl east for this area.

Praying for both of us, we are in the same district! Hope to see you July 1st!

I am in CT too! I do know 2 candidates who got in from CT as athletes. Different sport and districts.
Keeping fingers crossed. Good luck to all of us!

I have actually looked through the list of appointments for USMA, USNA and USAFA and only saw 1 CT appointment (Navy).

I have seen a few CT people get in - not on this board but in schools college acceptance instagrams

As in they got an official appointments (a BFE?) or a LOA of sorts from the sports respective coach(s)?

My DS is in CT too. Since the end of January his portal says, "Congratulations, xxxx! You have fulfilled the Checklist and CFA requirements of your Letter of Assurance" He is medically qualified, got 2 nominations and CFA qualified. He has done well academically, but there is no confirmation on that too. He hasn't gotten any other notices since then, and USMA has not requested his birth certificate and SS yet. Just waiting.....

Yes, I received the same however my SSN and Birth Cirtificate was requested in late December and was marked academically qualified (3Q). Waiting is the hardest part about the app.!

I'm pretty sure you cannot retake the SAT after the West Point deadline

Yes, I have communicated with my representative and scores can be updated! They like to see continued efforts for improvement even after submission.
They can be updated throughout the admissions process but since the deadline has already passed you cannot use them for the class of 2029. If you take the SAT in March it would have to go toward your reapplication in the class of 2030 if you did not get in.

Congrats, HOPEMOM, saw your posted appointment! Did your MOC contact you in advance of the portal update?
Thank you!! No calls, just got an email, saw offer appear on portal, a day later got a text from Admissions Officer congratulating. It was a total surprise :)
