Hey SAF,

Tonight, I applied for a credit card with Discover. Can anyone who has gone through the process comment on what will happen? I'm curious how many high school graduates without prior credit history get accepted. Specifically, does an appointment to an SA help expedite the process or improve an applicant's chances?

I figure it's time to start building credit sooner than later.

Thank you!

Start with USAA or one of the Branch credit unions like navy fed, pentagon fed.. If that does not work, wait until beginning of 2c year and get career starter loan.

Agree... When you get to your SA apply for a card through the one on base or USAA.

For 2018 cadets, a PedFed credit card was issued during Beast with a $1,000 credit limit. (Checking and savings accounts were also opened, as well as a $500 loan.) This is all related to the book money cadets get each semester. (I'm not really sure which account book $$ goes into.) I know this because my cadet misplaced his home debit/credit card last month and needed money transferred into one of the PenFed accounts until a new debit/card was sent to him, so I asked for online access to his PenFed accounts to walk him through the process.

Son is headed to WP (c/0 2019). Open accounts with USAA. Applied for a USAA credit card. The awarded the card with a $300. Every 6 months, you can request for a credit increase. Key is to paid card off and on time each month to establish good credit. Discover not accepted everywhere.
