Did you go to the crew camp, and or visit the boathouse?
It's really nice.

We visited the boathouse when he attended Summer Sem to meet with the coaches and he spent a lot of time there when he had his recruiting trip. Unbelievably impressive. I'm so excited for what's to come!

Did your son actually get recruited by the coach? I'm planning on rowing heavyweight if I receive an appointment but I was never contacted by the coach. Does the coach have any role in the admissions decision?

The coach can have influence on certain candidates. There are lots of threads about recruited athletes. If you aren't recruited it won't have an influence. The good news is the crew team has many first time rowers on it. The teams start out as very large and slowly dwindle over time. It's a tough sport and time consuming.

Coach said there are alot of "walk on" and "never rowed" that become fantastic crew team members. Don't give it another thought. Positive energy toward a positive outcome!!!!

https://www.facebook.com/navycrew/ If you haven't found it already. I hear "on good athourity" that the crew workouts that begin DURING Plebe summer for the freshman season the USNA participates in are a nice break. Not any easier in terms of exhertion or focus required-----its just a time during the day when you are not a Plebe.
