Current Frosh AMA

How many balls are hosted every year? I know there is an all-academy one and the other two academies have some throughout the year, but how many dances does USAFA have annually?
 
Oh, thank you! Knowing that is a load off for sure. Especially as my kid is raring to be dropped off at the airport and make his way on his own. 🥲 I’m glad we can wait for the call at home!

From the cadet perspective, agree with this. State parents club can help, but not for everyone. You should prioritize parents weekend over I Day if you’re debating. Parents weekend is the best time to go for sure.

Don’t read too much into the handbook. Get the general things, but don’t stress about everything in it. I Day is a learning experience for everyone, upperclassmen included. In all honesty it’s not that serious to follow everything to a T. The upperclassman are trying to figure stuff out just as much as you are. Have all of your paperwork though that will make it easier. Just toss it in your backpack though. If they need it they’ll ask. They’re going to yell at you for anything. So just have your stuff and it’s all fine. Don’t bring cleats unless you’re a soccer IC or something. You can DM me if you want about I Day but honestly it’s a lot of waiting around and you get yelled at and all but it’s just not that deep. Everyone is learning.

If you do Facebook, join the parents group for class of 2028. You have to send in proof of the appointment. You can easily connect with other parents, and if your child needs a ride from hotel to academy on I-day, there will be many offers from parents with cars. I recall seeing a lot of that last year.

And feel free to message me privately when you have the capability to do so (have to be on here a week and have 5 posts I think).

Thank you again! I will do that, after I can get my kid to send me a screenshot of his appointment. And if I could get him a ride without worrying about taxis it'd definitely be awesome! Would you happen to know when they should be there? I know the different squadrons will start In-processing at different times, but should all the appointees show up at once?

No, they will be assigned times, and they’ll get that information about a week or 10 days before if I remember correctly.

There’s really just ring dance but thats just for juniors. The all academy ball is typically within your home state and not through the academy. I didn’t go, have heard mixed opinions but if you like that kind of thing I’m sure it would be fun. But those are over winter break typically.
