Current Yuk @ West Point, ask me anything

Do credits from other colleges carry over? such as Chemistry and Trig?
They carry over. You can validate credits. You still have to do four years.
-You will still have a full schedule(it is how West Point is designed).

I would try to validate as much as possible.

The validations allow cadets to have more flexibility in class choice and even the possibility of studying abroad.

My DS is from Texas. What is the best airport to fly into for West Point, and how difficult is it to get from the airport to West Point?

I believe Newark in NJ and they have shuttles to West Point is my understanding.

Thanks... I understand. What about the average cadet with no AP Chem background, they took Chem in 1st Semester or 2nd Semester?
You can request when you would like to take it over the summer, but probably sometime plebe year or 1st semester yuk year

I'm not 100% sure but there are validation tests you can take during beast to validate classes. Keep in mind that you have to take at least 5 classes per semester here, so you will be able to take more major courses if you do validate. I 100% suggest taking all validation exams that you have a shot at validating, even if you are not confident.

For holiday weekends and breaks there are busses to and from WP to the major airports (Newark. LaGuardia and JFK). Cadets receive an email a few weeks before to book a spot for a fee (I believe $30). All other weekends it is up to the cadets to use a train, Uber, car services, cadets with cars, etc.

How is the food at West Point, and how does it differ from the food during CBT?
Food will nearly be the same during the AY (academic year) as it is during summer training. You can reference @usmacadetmesshall on Instagram to get a better understanding of what the meals typically look like here. Keep in mind that when you are in the field during training, some of your meals will be MREs. I'll attach today's menu just for fun :). 1619550605169.png

Wow! That looks really good! Thank you

Do you have an opinion on what the best boots for Cadet Basic Training would be?

I recommend the garmont t8 bifida - good padding for and comfortable

When your foot gets tougher I moved to the garmont nfs(less padding on the sole, but way lighter and easier to run in)

What is more important is BREAK IN THE BOOT (wear it around, hiking is not a bad idea), gets your foot used to the boot and the boot used to your foot.

-The boot list may have a different selection this year

-Everyone prefers different brands of boots(some manufactures fit some feet shapes better)

If you have really high arches/heavy pronation get the Merrell's. I have super high arches and my feet kill me on long walks/runs if I do not have any arch support. The Merrell's offer really great stability for my heavy pronation, and really solid arch support. I am easily able to do bleacher miles/mock rucks in them and they are super comfortable.

What is your best piece of advice for Beast and is there anything you wish you knew before R-Day? Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Am current plebe. Be prepared to be in the most humid place on earth and to climb a lot of stairs and be on your feet for long stretches of the day. Also, pack as little as possible so your bag is light but bring lots of socks and underwear. Cadet laundry is not good during the summer.

Thank you, appreciate the insight.
