My DD was offered and attended CVW back in Oct. She just received another offer to attend again in Jan or Feb. I understand it does not mean anything; I'm just wondering if this is happening to others.

Hi there, I attended a CVW during my junior year (2 years ago) and then received a second invite during my senior year (last year); however, this second invite was soon retracted since I had already attended one they wanted to open the spot up for someone else. Good luck with your applications!

DS got invite today for Jan/Feb. I figure there may be tons of invites sent, but happy he got one. He's really looking forward to it.

I believe this happened last year too and those who already attended had them retracted.

Senior, I suggest if DS is available, ask admissions for an invite during the fall if his schedule allows. I suspect longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures could mean better experience.

Great suggestion. Will do. Thanks

Yes fall and late spring invites tend to have a Brigade in a better mood. It's warmer, the school year is new/wrapping up so full of energy, etc. Then again a winter visit allows a dark ages visit. It's when the Brigade is at it's lowest point. So there is something to be said to see USNA when it's the lowest point for the Brigade. Plebes are your host whenever you go. It's important to talk to all ranks at USNA toner different views. A plebe'a view is very limited. They haven't seen the fleet at all and by the time Jan/Feb roles around they are pretty tired and ready for the year to be over.

That is true. But then again a prior enlisted Plebe has seen very little is USNA and still doesn't completely understand everything USNA has to offer. They also were not officers in the fleet and understand how the USNA process prepared someone. It's why talking to every class, those who are majoring in your interest areas, talking to those involved in your activities of interest are key. Each year at USNA you gain a new and unique perspective of USNA. As a firstie the whol process sort of comes full circle and things start to make much more sense. Even then, it takes 1-2 years after graduation to see it all come full circle. If you have a Plebe host who is totally negative fine some other Plebes. That can and does happen. Jan and Feb are tough months as a Plebe at USNA.

I thought CVWs were only for applicants. How can a junior get one?

I received my CVW invite during my junior year after I had completed my summer seminar application which also serves as the preliminary application. When I attended CVW in February of my junior year many of the other "drags" were juniors as well.

I was told at CVW - by a mom who had one DS already graduate USNA and one currently attending USMA - that summer seminar was more of a marketing exercise for the Academy while CVW was for candidates they were actively pursuing. Now that could be all hogwash but it sure sounded good when you are there with your DS or DD.
