CVW-February 2019

My son is a 2023 candidate who did not apply to NASS due to Boys State.
For future reference/your younger son, many candidates are able to do Boy's State in addition to NASS. you can apply to both and if you are assigned to the NASS
session that conflicts with Boy's State, contact USNA and they will usually switch you to a different NASS session. FWIW, I am a Boy's State staffer in my state and
have seen numerous Boys attend both things.

He attended several other camps which conflicted. He had to prioritize and he felt the other activities added to his file. He did attend the Marine Corps SLCDA camp in July and loved it!

My DS used Super Shuttle last Fall when he went on a CVW. He said that it worked great. He downloaded an app that had a map to show him how to get from his terminal in DCA to the shuttle and the shuttle took him directly to USNA.
40 minutes later, he was there. He was responsible for ground transport (look, I bought the airline tickets, okay?) so I don't know what it cost but he said it was reasonable.
He's as cheap as me, so it must not have cost an arm and a leg.

I received an LOA last month but didn’t receive an invite to the upcoming CVW. Is there a reason for this? Should I just contact my BGO if I’m interested in visiting?

Congrats on the LOA!! It can’t hurt to ask your BGO.

Contact your admissions counselor if you want a CVW weekend, they'll set it up for you to be invited- my son had an LOA and an official appointment but we wanted him to visit one more time to be sure this is what he wanted- so he did a CVW in the spring of his senior year.

Congratulations!
Candidate Visit Weekends are by invitation only, but having a LOA is the golden ticket.
With the LOA, you can request a CVW. It is a nice position to be in.

Congratulations on the LOA! and yes, you should have no trouble getting a CVW invite

For anyone else interested, you do NOT need to have an LOA in order to request an invite. You can contact admissions directly to make the request, or your BGO can request it for you. If you are a competitive candidate they will try to find a spot for you if there are any available.

Every one that I've requested this cycle has been granted, and none of them had an LOA

Caveat is that it's getting late in the cycle and there are probably very few spots remaining available

My DD has received an appointment to USNA, do you think she will be offered a CVW? Should she reach out to someone to inquire? I think she needs a more realistic visit than NASS to seal the deal!

If it is okay to not be in school over the CVW (report around 5PM on Thursday and leave after 9:00 AM on Saturday) and you can swing it, I would recommend it. My DS enjoyed the experience and it solidified his resolve to be a Plebe.

> Absolutely, if in doubt..ask for a CVW. DD should reach out to her Admissions Counselor and/or BGO, and unless already "sold out" I would expect USNA would be happy to oblige.

same for my son- CVW gives a more realistic view of the academic day in the life of a plebe- and solidified his decision
