A visit to the recruiter won't hurt. I don't see a problem with telling them about your goal of attending the academy but also don't see a need to.I hvae not yet done so... Can you give me some advice to this? I'd assume it's common knowledge I wouldn't mention my ultimate goal is USNA.... I took a practice ASVAB a while back, and I got around a 55 without any practice, so obviously there is room for improvement. Any advice for this would be really appreciated.
You can message your usna admissions rep to confirm their receipt of the VP nom application. This is discussed every year, the fact that there isn’t a affirmation receipt of your online application for the VP nom. I don’t think there is even a “thanks for applying” response (this is such a seemingly easy fix, imo)…which leaves candidates wondering if it was received anywhere, or floating around the digital web .Do you think it's worth it to resubmit an application for VP Nom, I mean I submitted it such a long time ago, I feel like I also might have some better things to state, etc...
LOA's can happen anytime during the cycle, including after a CVW. But, there is no link between a CVW and an LOA. An LOA can certainly be a good sign, but the real goal must be an appointment. The recipient of the LOA must still fulfill all conditions of the LOA, be triple qualified (medically, physically, academically) and hold a nomination. Good luck to your son!My son just completed his CVW this October 7-9. He has all his applications in, including MOC. He just needs to be assigned his medical and wait on his nomination. His visit confirmed that the USNA is where he wants to be. He is also applying to the USMMA and a Navy ROTC scholarship. What he said was most inspiring is the fact that there is a wide range of students at the Academy, most of whom are regular young men and women who want to serve their country. He hopes to get an LOA (does that happen after a CVW?) or an appointment. Fingers crossed.

Had a nice ol' conversation with a recruiter today, he explained the dual-processing, and he explained how he has seen people go to SA after enlisting, etc, etc...A visit to the recruiter won't hurt. Don't sign anything. I'm working with one of my students on improving her ASVAB score and otherwise getting ready for the enlistment process. The SRO came and took her from class earlier this week. She came back and didn't tell me what it was about and I didn't ask.
There are lots of online resources for ASVAB prep. The recruiters can also help with that but don't take the one that counts until you are ready.
Saying all that, I don't agree with enlisting in the military as a path to a service academy. Getting selected is a long shot. I'd work on being the best candidate possible for admission to a school that will lead to a commission. Once you graduate it matters not from where you went.
yes, we've all seen Sailors and Marines go to the academy after enlisting. Good luck. One could do worse than being a U.S. Navy Sailor.Had a nice ol' conversation with a recruiter today, he explained the dual-processing, and he explained how he has seen people go to SA after enlisting, etc, etc...
Ima do this pathway...
Even if I don't get to USNA, there are still ways for me to become an officer.. I won't regret this...yes, we've all seen Sailors and Marines go to the academy after enlisting. Good luck. One could do worse than being a U.S. Navy Sailor.
