For those of you that attended the CVW, especially if you traveled on your own, how did you get from the airport to the campus? Also what did the overall expenses look like?

I personally took an Uber straight to the USNA gate from the airport. Just know that if you’re under 18 years old you need a supervising adult to walk you through (I didn’t know this so I showed up alone and they asked a passing midshipman to walk me in). I took another Uber the morning of the last day straight to the airport 😂 so no additional expenses besides the ride and flight.

Usually you can find another CVW candidate at the airport and split the cost of an Uber. If parents are revealing with their candidate, look around, you might find another candidate who could use a life.

Coach and courier is a private shuttle service that does usna airport runs, highly recommended alternative to Uber.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask.. im pretty sure it is, so sincere apologies. Couldn’t find anything on search bc “cvw” is too short of a search term.. how does one get invited to CVW? This whole process is very new to us. My 10th grader has been working towards the Academies for 3 years now but CVW is something I’ve never heard of.

Candidate Visit Weekend- typically offered to possible candidates in 11th or 12th grade. For 11th graders I assume they get the list from Summer Seminar applications or prior year STEM camp attendees.

CVW = Candidate Visit Weekend (also abbreviation for Carrier Air Wing if anyone cares !). It is an opportunity to visit USNA and stay in the Hall with host Midshipmen. Limited to Juniors and Seniors. Space is limited, and selection /attendance has no bearing on competitiveness for Admissions. Typically USNA will invite, but if DS is interested next year, it can't hurt to tell your BGO and BGO can put in a request.

The "acronym list" at the top of the page is useful too. CVW and lots of others are on that list.

I recommend taking an Uber there and back. It is mildly pricey, but if you know anyone going to CVW y'all can always share and Uber and split the price. I split it with a person I met at CVW when going back to the airport and it was about $20.
