DD was invited to a CVW last month, which she had to decline due to schedule conflicts. She would still wish to attend one, however she is already slated to attend NASS as well. There should be a great deal of cross-exposure between the two. The plus side to me when I attended a CVW in 1992 was attending classes and getting a feel for the academics. In your recommendation should she still be looking to do a CVW post SS? Thanks!

Depends on if she needs that exposure to decide about USNA.

You are correct, that a CVW is with shadowing a Mid, during the AC year. A different experience than NASS. But if she doesn’t need that tag along to decide, no need to attend imo.

There is no benefit to her application to attend. Or not attend. It’s a choice. That comes with a time commitment and financial pieces if plane tickets are required, for example.

She’s dead set on aero or astro eng. Hence the shared interest between USNA and USAFA. I know she would really love to see the facilities i.e. labs/classrooms in each department, she had some minor exposure at Summer Stem. I’m just not familiar with how much exposure she will receive at SS. We’re only 6 hours away, so travel isn’t that big of a consideration.

Highly recommend attending a fall CVW if at all possible. I believe your thought of NASS and then attending CVW would be a very wise timeline.

👍🏻 thanks for the advice. Just have to get her re-invited now.

Many older threads about NASS & CVW. NASS is more of an outreach program where they mainly want to expose individuals to USNA who might not have otherwise considered it and takes place in the summer when USNA is not in session. CVW is more of a real inside look at how things actually work on a day-to-day basis during the AC year and you spend time with your assigned mid. If you had to only choose one, CVW would be a better option.
