How is one offered a CVW? Just curious. And is it possible to do the Seminar and be invited to a CVW? Also, are CVWs just for instate applicants?

DS applied for SS and was offered a CVW. Yes it is possible. No, they are not just for in state applicants. Many out of state applicants were in attendance.

You can request more information on the admissions website below and/or reach out to your area BGO to express interest in a CVW. Participating in NASS does not preclude one from a CVW. Both are great ways to learn more about USNA and find out if it's a place you could see yourself thriving.

My DS is from out of state. Attended NASS and was offered and attended CVW last fall after NASS.

My son applied for Summer STEM as a rising sophomore (got in but it was cancelled) and rising junior (got in and it was virtual) and applied for Summer Semminar as a rising senior. I think that just put him on their watch list which is how he got invited to his first CVW spring of junior year. Then he attended SS as well as a XC/TF camp and I am pretty sure that's how he stayed on radar to be offered another fall of senior year. I think just being on their radar, you eventually get an invite. And yes, of course you can do both and more than one.

My DS had not opened an application of any kind to USNA. He received an email invitation out of the blue. So I think it really is a mystery only known to those in the dark abyss of Academyland.

On the subject of CVW, we just got back earlier today. DS had an awesome time, and it only strengthened his resolve to attend. It was an extremely positive experience and I appreciate the “can-do” attitude that really shined through. DS was not aware that there would be a CFA this morning, but he managed to do very well. He was given a lot of great feedback and encouragement from his Plebe, so super thankful for that. Highly encourage anyone with the opportunity to attend, take advantage.
