Hey all.

I am just starting to do some cross training with a bike and i am really enjoying it...I know probably not the C4C year, but after Recognition, do they allow Cadets to have a bike?

Thanks.

Bikes are allowed for all cadets, even prior to Recognition.

I personally waited until April to get my bike, but a couple buddies did tri team and had their bikes out here early on. Tri team does have a storage room if you choose to do that.

Cycling is my sport. I love it since it has very little impact compared to something like running. Look into the USAFA cycling team when you get there. They've got a solid team I'm pretty sure they were collegiate team of the year, last year. Didn't follow them this year, so not sure how they ended up.

As a member of the cycling team here, you can definitely bring your bike up. You can either join the team and keep it in our room, join tri and keep it in theirs, or register it and keep it down in the quad bike racks. We did well this year. A few conference wins and 18/46 overall at nationals. As a doolie, I loved being able to just escape the academy for an afternoon ride to the Springs or up to Palmer Lake.

probably a dumb question but are there a lot of steep inclines in the area? i've never been to CS

It's the rocky mountains...

Just kidding...but seriously, if you want inclines, try the Pikes Peak bike race. They were having that last June during SS.

Rocky Mountains.....but I never realized how steep the foothills around the academy were until I rode them. There are plenty of hills on base (Pine Drive in particular is a good climb) and many more if you ride north towards Monument or Palmer Lake

Are there bikes from the team to use if you do not have your own out there (would make more sense for me to by a new one than to ship, if i needed to)?

There are team bikes but you have to first become part of the team. You also need your own pedals and shoes since you normally put your pedals on and ride for a day then someone else uses it the next day. There isn't a sign up list or anything its just first come first serve. I bought a new bike out here (the team can get some really good deals at local bike shops) because the cost of shipping was prohibitive and I wanted to be able to ride while on leave.
