Does anyone know where to find the dates for A day and R day for 2023? i only see the 2022-2023 academic calendar on the West Point site. I wasn't sure if they always fall on the same days each year (i.e, fourth Monday) or if there's someplace else I should be looking. Thanks!

The dates have not been designated yet, but I would anticipate R-Day being around Monday, June 26, and A-Day being around Saturday, August 12 (given past experience).

Trying to book a place for A day. Is it typically 10 mile or 20 mile radius that the plebes can travel?

When are plebes/CC's typically free during the A Day weekend?

No, you cannot see your plebe during the week before A-Day which is called Re-Orgy (as in Re-Organization) Week. Your plebe will be busy setting up for school and will need to be escorted everywhere by an upperclassman, usually his or her team leader. However, your plebe will get his or her phone back after March Back (on the Monday)--and will have a reasonable amount of free time in the evenings and even during the days...it is weird to get used to them calling when they just want to call...This means that you will be able to coordinate where you will meet after the A-Day Parade and also any items he or she would like you to bring from home...the answer is most likely to be 'Nothing'--but they may want a picture in a frame or a flag or make up or something. (You can skip March Back or watch it online via live stream) but you definitely want to get to USMA on Friday and get up early to stake a claim on the bleachers for the A-Day Parade.

Looking at west points parent page, usually they get walking privledges after the parade and can go with the parents for the day but have to report back until 1am. Then they can spend the day again with family on Sunday until later in the afternoon.

Last year the mile radius of their walking privledges was 20 miles where they’re allowed to go. Not sure if that will be the same this year, which is why I asked.

This remains a tough question to answer. Two years ago, when my son was a plebe, the limit was 5 miles on A-Day. Last year, I believe the limit was 20 miles. Prior to COVID, plebes were allowed to go up to 75 miles for A-Day. Deb Dalton who manages the West Point Parents page on Facebook is a good source for this kind of information. Frankly, you may not get an answer to this question until Reorgy Week.

Did you see this posted somewhere?
The Thayer Hotel has the dates. Another in the know 2027 parent was kind enough to share this:

Somewhat related for parents of fall sports athletes (especially football), your A Day weekend experience will be different than what is commonly communicated here.

Most fall sports will be in the thick of preseason camp that weekend, so your cadet may have commitments that prevent them from visiting with you and/or leaving post due to team commitments. Our DS was able to have a late breakfast with us Sunday, but otherwise not able to unplug and spend time with us. (For logistical reasons some new cadets were actually not able to attend the A Day march.)

If you cadet is a fall athlete, make an effort to connect with upper class parents for the particulars of your sport. Likely a Facebook group for most of them. For football parents, your cadet will basically leave camp for the march, then head back to Michie to suit up for the rookie scrimmage. After that they will have a full afternoon and evening of meetings, films, training, etc.

According to the letter sent from Admissions to the Candidate Portal today, R-Day is June 27 this year, not the 26th. Just FYI.

I believe it's still the 26th, saying it's the 27th was a typo as it was June 27th, 2022. They forgot to update the date from last year. The Thayer is probably more accurate, and they said it was the 26th when we called to book rooms.

I'm trying to book rooms for R Day as well. Do parents generally go the day before and leave that night (or the day after)? (we will have a long drive or flight).
So I"m thinking show up on the 25th and leave on the 27th?
And for Acceptance Day when do parents normally arrive and leave?
Thank you.

I recommend arriving the day before R Day so you won’t have any rush to add to all the other anxieties and you will have time to say your goodbyes.
OCF planned an ice cream social the day before R Day that we went to. We met a lot of people there.

For R Day, I also recommend allowing yourself enough time after drop off to go to the parents info tables and events that they have set up. It was so valuable for us to talk to other parents who just went through the same thing. It is an emotional day, so it would probably be wise for you allow yourself time to take it all in on the 26th and to leave the 27th IMO.

For R-Day, you should definitely arrive the day before the report date to guard against forces out of your control and to provide a little rest before the big day. You should plan to be there all day for the first parade late that afternoon. Then plan your departure for the day after R-Day.

For A-Day, you should plan to arrive the Friday before. For departure, you could plan a late afternoon Sunday departure, or better yet, Monday if that option is available for you.

With regards to hotels, you should look at Peekskill (south across the river), Newburgh to the north, and Nanuet/Spring Valley to the south as options within the likely mileage limits for A-Day.

R-Day: There are things to do the afternoon before...there is an ice cream social at the Association of Grads and most of the varsity sports have meet & greets and some of the clubs. So, get there in the middle of the day and get acclimated. The parade/swearing in ceremony is on the Plane at the end of the day (usually around 6 p.m.) .You will drop your kid off in the morning and not talk to him or her again. You can start the trip home after the ceremony or even before...but you might want to be there.

A-Day. Arrive the afternoon or evening before. You will not be able to see or visit with your kid on Friday. Go super early on Saturday to get a great seat in the bleachers for the A-Day Parade, which usually starts around 1000...PICK A MEETING SPOT IN ADVANCE! and then you are with your cadet until around midnight! Then on Sunday, you can pick your cadet up early and have brunch, church, shopping, touring USMA, listening to war stories, etc...but then your cadet migth wish to prepare for the first day of school...which is Monday morning....so you may be done by 2 p.m. although they are allowed to be out until either 5 or 7 p.m.

Your cadet will have his or her phone back after the March Back so the plans for A-Day can be tweaked closer to the time but a Sunday late afternoon or evening flight home is a o.k. or even starting the drive home.

Best wishes!
