From what I've heard, the West Point Admissions team meets every Tuesday and those appointed usually hear back on Fridays. Does USNA follow a similar pattern? Thanks!

In general, at none of the SAs does “the” team meet during the week and afterwards, someone goes to a computer to update portals with the exact set of appointments/declinations from that review, that same week.

A reviewing group could well meet in person or virtually on Tuesdays; they may be charged with evaluating overall “admissibility.” There are many facets of the application to evaluate. The decision-makers who release offers of appointment may do that at any time. And there is not necessarily a direct cause-effect linkage, meaning records which get reviewed for one aspect of the decision process may not be the same as appointment offers that happen to go out the same week.

Yes, again generally, all the SA Admissions departments have a group that meets on a regular basis to review applications, but records will also have been looked at by various other groups within the department on a daily basis, other decisions are being made, before it all comes together and the final decision is made, at this moment, to proceed with an offer of appointment, or not, or hang on until other issues resolve. All the applicant data is in the CRM platform, being reviewed, evaluated and acted upon by various contributors to the decision.

This is all very general, but each Admissions department works through complex sequencing of parallel and intersecting review and evaluation actions as part of their class-building work. It is not linear but matrixed.

They take the time to do what they need to do to thoughtfully and intentionally review each application.

Does Field admission officer's advice take more weights in the decision? Or one application is required to be reviewed at least by two admission officers separately?

Each SA’s process is no doubt similar in some ways and unalike in others, and I haven’t seen the detailed process published externally for any.

oh okay, thank you. I only contacted my field admission officer a few times, as the application package went through along with the instruction. I guess no need to worry about it but wait.

During the October CVW which I attended, the admissions officer who gave the brief said that admission board meets together on Thursdays, in person, and review as many applicant files as they can that day.

He did not mention anything about when they upload the status' of applicants to the portal.

Capt MJ addressed this a posts back. Yes, the Admissions Board meets on Thusdays but if they "Q" someone on Thursday, that does not mean that anything happens on the portal. In reality, the "Q" does not go onto the portal. The "Q"'d files need to be assessed against the rest of their slates. People who the Admissions Board "Q"s still need to win their slates! If they do not then The Noms and Appointments Branch can look at some other slots but Additional Appointees and other paths for non-slate winners will generally happen AFTER the slates have been decided.
Bottom Line: Please stop trying to associate the board meeting on Thursday with portal changes in X days.

Much better stated!

Absolutely..100 % ! This question comes up every year. Prior to the new BGIS, BGO's could see the Admissions Q posted, but there could literally be months between the Admissions Board meeting and and the Appointment being offered. Keep in mind, if you have your application when the Board starts meeting in September, Noms and Appointments has to wait until everyone in a particular slate has completed their application (as late as January 31) to evaluate which 3Q candidate gets the Offer. (Of course, this can get short circuited by an LOI, but that's a whole differrent thread (actually, 100's of threads on SAF!)

By "field admission officer" are you referring to the BGO, or someone in USNA Admissions ? (I believe Field Force Admissions Officer is USMA term for their BGO"). For USNA, the BGO conducts an interview and submits their write up , which includes evaluation and recommendation. The effect or impact of the BGO interview may vary, but it is only part of the process. (I have stated before, it is my belief that the BGO makes the most difference at the two extremes of very good or very bad). Beyond that , the Regional Admissions Officer "briefs" the Admission package to the Admissions Board -- so he/she may have some influence when it comes to emphasizing what they percieve is important. Beyond that, the Admissions Q is determined by the Admissions Board. I forget the number and exact composition, but the Board is composed of Senior Military and Academic staff , and votes on each Candidate. If you look hard on this Forum, I believe someone posted a Youtube video showing a mock Admission Board in action.

Thank you for the info. I mean Admissions Counselor who I had a few direct communications regarding my transcript.

Note that there are a FEW admissions folks in the field - primarily in large minority-heavy cities such as NYC, Chicago, LA and Houston. They are generally Lieutenants and work with area BGOs within their metro area.

Unless things have changed, Admissions Board members brief records assigned to them, not the Admissions Counselors.
