Hello, I am a candidate for the class of 2027 and I received an email that said,

The Admissions Board has deferred your record until the receive the following:

1. They strongly recommend that you retake the ACT (Nov/Dec time frame).
2. We will need your 1st semester grades. Please have your guidance counselor send me an updated transcript to either this email address or to the address below.

How should I feel about this? What is this? Thanks!

Firstly, if using your real name, you should change it for reasons of annoynomity.

How you should feel, is that you should complete their requested items. You are in the running, until you are told no. You are receiving guidance from admissions. Get busy!

They’re interested but may have concerns about standardized test performance (get thee to test prep!) and also want to see how you do on senior year courses. You are fortunate in that you are being given relatively clear signposts on academics.

You know what to do if you want this. Kill it.

Asking for 7th semester transcript isn’t uncommon. Some candidates will get asked for them and others will not. It could mean they want to see your results for a trend or maybe how you are performing in a key class such as Chem or Calc. Retake the tests, if you can. Get a solid study plan in place. If possible, get a tutor.

Also, make sure you are familiar with USNA Prep School programs. Both NAPS, and Foundation sponsored programs. Not saying this is the case at all, but it *could* be that you are on the cusp of consideration. If you haven’t had your BGO interview yet, you will be asked if you would be interested in these programs (standard question for all). So it’s a good idea to be familiar anyhow (BTW, you should absolutely accept a prep offer, if offered).

Good luck!!
