To be competitive for a pilot slot in ROTC, what majors would be best? I am aware that technical majors are definitely more desired for AFROTC. I currently was accepted to TAMU on a Computer Science scholarship, but would something such as Aeronautical Engineering look better? It's something that I am becoming very interested in after having gone on my first flight lesson this Saturday, but I just would want to know what majors would be most desirable. Thank you in advance!

Your major really has nothing to do with the service selection you will receive at the end. Over the past two years my unit has commissioned 12 Naval Aviators and out of those 12, 11 were tier 3 majors and one was a tier 2 major. We also had a music major go to nuclear power school. The only thing that matters is how well you do in school. If you force yourself to do a major that you think will look good on your resume, you will get an awful GPA and end up with your last choice. Do a major that you are interested and fully invested in and get a solid GPA to set you up well.

Your major selection should be a degree you in which you have interest so that you earn a high GPA. Pilot slots are very competitive, regardless of the branch of service. It's my understanding that the Air Force projects personnel 2 years out. I recommend reaching out to the Detachment staff. They should be able to answer any specific questions you may have.

SNFO select here; Tier 3 major with two social science/humanities minors. Out of the 40 classes I've taken in four years, only 4 of them were STEM based, didn't hurt me going to aviation community.
