Hey USAFA and company! So I saw that people commented that many LOI's disappeared from portals this last week, and I was wondering if everyone who had an LOI had theirs disappear or if it was some who did. I had one disappear and I know that before it was 'A Sign' (gasp!), but I don't want to get my hopes up over something unofficial. Thanks!

My LOI has not disappeared since I got it in October. And I’m not psyched about it haha. Not saying it guarantees an appointment (because in the grand scheme of things I am absolutely clueless), but the fact that they are making changes to your application/portal, whether it’s good or bad, means that they are probably at least working through your file and making decisions!

ok cool thanks for your input! I hope it kinda doesn't mean anything now since not everyone's disappeared. Best of luck to you and your application!

Not sure about LOIs, but for a bunch of people before with LOAs, the LOA disappeared at the start of the week, and by the end of the week they had a letter of admission. Not trying to get your hopes up or anything... but thats just what happened for me and some other people...

This year it has happened on multiple occasions that an LOI disappearance renders and appointment. However do not bank on that.

Meanwhile some are still waiting on the medical check mark even though DodMerb says he is fully medically qualified and multiple emails to team silver say all is good🤷‍♀️

There seems to of been a trend on here that LOI/LOAs disappear 3ish days before an appointment. I've heard March 20th from a few ALOs now, as well as from my Senator. If that 3 day trend holds true still, it would make sense.

I am just hoping that the LOI does not HAVE to disappear for an appointment to come through. Although that’s likely the case:(

If the LOI theory is true which I’m leaning toward is being the case for this reason.

The LOI goes away because it is updated with an appointment, however, it is invisible to the applicant because the congressman has X amount of days to tell the applicant of their appointment.

I believe that IF your LOI goes away it is at the same time you are appointed on their end and the information is given to the congressmen. Thats why LOIs went away Tuesday afternoon this week and congressmen started calling Wednesday morning / Tuesday evening.

I'm still processing the fact I got a phone call. I was sitting at work at 9:30 in the morning, and I got a call from an unknown number, which I normally never answer but decided to since it's roughly appointment time-frame. My EMS Lieutenant had to come make sure I wasn't being murdered because of how loud I was screaming...

My LOI disappeared Tuesday. I have not received a call from either my Senator or Representative that gave me USAFA nominations. No appointment in my portal. However, I don’t believe my Representative calls (not sure about Senator). I received an appointment in my USNA portal last Sunday and I did not receive any call. I only had a nomination from my Rep for USNA - so I am hoping my LOI disappearing is due to an appointment coming (I’ve read people thinking either tomorrow or Wednesday will be some appointments). Bottom line - not all MOCs call and inform you that an appointment is coming.

At the risk of sounding dumb: what is an LOI and LOA? My son's portal has a lot of green check marks and still just says 100% complete as it has for months now. Nominations from Rep and Senator, but no phone calls...this process is extremely frustrating to say the least as deadlines for other schools are rapidly approaching.

Letter of Interest and Letter of Assurance.

Letter of Interest is used to encourage competitive candidates to get their applications done. Letter of Assurance is an assurance a candidate will get an appointment if they meet certain conditions - usually medical and CFA.

Ah ok...thank you! I do not see anything like either of those so I assume he hasn't been given either.

Has anyone encountered a situation where the letter of interest (LOI )or letter of encouragement (LOE) has disappeared and immediately turned into an acceptance. Or, is it pretty standard that it's a 3 day conversion process wherein the acceptance appears on the portal.
