Hello.
I recently got a letter saying I'm disqualified for hypertension (D102.60).
I have a history of hypertension back when I was overweight and ate junk food all the time. I was young, around 15 years old, so the doctors made sure to check everything (had regular blood work, heart checked, kidney ultrasounds etc). They found nothing wrong with my anatomy, so I was diagnosed with essential hypertension and took meds.
Eventually, I changed my high sodium diet and began exercising consistently.
I have been off all meds for about a year and my blood pressure readings are fine (with the exception of in-office doctor visits. Those are slightly elevated because I don't like blood pressure machines, and get stressed because of them).
My blood pressure reading at the dodmerb visit was 136/82.
I read that the cutoff limit was 140/90, but I still got a letter saying that I do not meet DOD standards with regards to hypertension.
After I get out of surgery for my hernia, I'll send dodmerb all tests that my doctors had me do (kidneys, heart, etc) and other paperwork to show my hypertension was not caused by something serious. Until then, can someone let me know what the disqualification may be?
