My son is a junior and has a typing accommodation thru a 504. He does not have ADHD or extended time or any other accommodations. Do you believe this accomodation would be a disqualifier for an academy? Thanks!

Medical standards can be found Here pg 50 has learning disorders.

If he has a 504 for any learning disorder after the age of 14 that will be disqualifying.

Note: Disqualifying does not mean he won’t be able to get in, just that he will have to obtain a medical waiver.

If your son gues to the DoDMERB website, a more direct link to the DoD military medical accession standard is available there as a menu item. He should read through the landing page at the DoDMERB site and then work his way through all the left-side menu items, including Contacts, to help him understand the process. The medical accession bar is set very high. It’s a utilitarian approach, the good of the many over the good of the one. The military tries to bring in people least vulnerable to injury, illness or conditions, to better support unit safety and readiness.

There are no accommodations at the SAs. Candidates with accommodations or medications have to be able to successfully function without them, and usually be without them for a certain period of time.

He has to work the process, see what happens.
