Do I need to take Trigonometry as a Math Class?

Hi,

I'm currently a Junior who really wants to attend the Air Force Academy. I checked on the website for math that I need to have "strong background in geometry, algebra, trigonometry and pre-calculus". I'm taking Pre-Calculus Honors right now and for Senior year AP Calculus AB. My school doesn't offer Trigonometry as a class however both Pre-Calculus and Calculus involve a lot of Trig.

Is Trig required class to take? I'm already attempting to dual enroll in a Computer Science to hit the 1 year of Computer Study requirement since my school also doesn't have it so I want to know if I have to take Trig as well.

Thank you for reading!

My school is the same and does not offer trig as a class, although I think you are good because you took pre-cal and are going to take AP Calculus, which is the same as I did

Pre-calc and calc use trig. I don't think 'strong background' necessarily equals to you must have a trig specific class. As long as you take rigor STEM classes your school offers, you should be fine. DS did not take trig nor computer science (not offered at HS). Instead, he took Calc BC and college Physics. That was good enough for a LOA.

You should be good. Some schools split trig from pre-calc and offer it as a separate class, not covering much trig in pre-calculus. USAFA wants to make sure that you either take trig or that you take courses that include it. As long as you have a good understanding of the basics (the trig functions, unit circle, polar coordinates, how to apply trig identities and things like the law of sines/cosines) you are good to go.

I'm a junior at the academy now - I didn't take a lick of trig and it wasn't a problem. Calculus is the only math class you'll be required to take here.
