DoD merb waiver

Does anyone have any advice on how to pursue a medical waiver for USCGA?
You’ll likely get a better response in the DoDMERB forum.

If you haven’t gone to the DoDMERB website and read every item and link on the left-hand side, I recommend it.

DoDMERB determines if a candidate meets or does not meet the standards. USCGA determines if a waiver is pursued. The waiver authority for USCGA decides if a waiver is granted. The candidate supplies additional medical information.

If you have been DQ'd by DODMERB, then USCGA will automatically consider you for a medical waiver if they consider you highly competitive for appointment. USCGA is small, so they do not have the manpower to consider medical waiver's for everyone who is DQ'd. Instead, you may be offered a conditional appointment (if you haven't completed the DODMERB process or if you have been DQ'd), and then you would be considered for a waiver if needed.

They may ask for additional information for when considering your medical waiver. If you know you have additional information that would be helpful, it doesn't hurt to go ahead and submit that to DODMERB to be added to your records. That way, USCGA will already have that information available when/if they begin to review your packet.

FACT: Admissions @ all Service Academies determine if DQ'd applicants are "competitive for an offer of appointment." If so, they direct thier medical teams to consider the applicant for a medical waiver. Applicants that are not "competitive for an offer of appointment," medical is not an issue. :wiggle:
