DoDMERB asthma remedial

Back in 2013, I visited my pediatrician for an upper respiratory infection, I was given a trial based albuterol inhaler for possible exercise induced asthma. Out of fear for potentially falsifying my medical records, I indicated to DoDMERB, when filling out their initial questionnaire, that I had been prescribed an asthma inhaler. I never used it to treat an asthma attack, and subsequently was never diagnosed with asthma. I expected the doctor at my initial medical exam to ask me about my asthma history, but she could not speak any English. Now stuck in remedial, I submitted a Pulmonary Function Test as well as the Pulmonologist's summary of the test results to DoDMERB. Results were normal and indicated no exercise induced asthma. However, DoDMERB says that the remedial information I submitted is "insufficient", and requests that "I send in all hospitalization and treatment records regarding asthma." I don't have any hospitalization or treatment records regarding asthma because I do not have asthma, and I have never been treated or hospitalized for it..... Not sure what do. I have tried on many occasions to contact my medical reviewer at DoDMERB so that I can ask EXACTLY what information they want and why the information I sent in is "insufficient." I have found both CIV and DoDMERB extremely hard to contact and work with, I am almost always sent to voicemail, and my calls are never returned. I have been involved with track and cross country at the varsity level all four years of HS and have never had any breathing problems. Currently an academically and physically qualified candidate at USAFA and USMA worried about the approaching deadline for the medical process. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I would comply with the FAST sticky found at the top of the DoDMERB subsection forum and email Mr. Larry Mullen. Also, I would get a copy of that 2013 visit you described and any follow-up documentation r/t that visit stating you did not have exercise-induced asthma and it was just an upper respiratory infection and submit that if Mr. Mullen advises to do so. Did they request pharmacy records? If so, I would get those as well.

Too long a post to read before they close the hatch on the plane and not sure why it wasn’t under DoDMERB?? But HawkeyeMom is spot on!

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but we had a similar-ish situation. Son had been prescribed Prednisone for poison ivy. Because it was a steroid it went into remedial. We went all out at first only to realize that all he had to submit was the notes from that doctor visit stating that it was only poison ivy and not something else. Then he got a questionnaire stating that he hadn't had it since and then was approved.

I know it seems frustrating, but just send in the notes that they are requesting and remember that it is medical professionals reviewing it so they do understand that it could have been prescribed for something other than asthma.

They are asking for the records when you received the inhaler. Why might that be useful you might ask? It allows them to see what your doctor diagnosed you with/what was wrong with you at the time. For me, my records cleared up that stuff because my doctor wrote, years back, that I was not recieving the steriod for asmha but to help me beat a cough. Don’t panic. They just want to see, from a doctor, what you were specifically diagnosed with at the time. Hopefully it works out for you 👍

“They” is me and our organization 😁🙏

Thank you all for the information, I will work to provide DoDMERB with all of the context, medical records, and pharmaceutical records regarding asthma. I apologize for not posting under DoDMERB-am new to this website.
