I am a senior in high school and I am applying to the Naval Academy. I am almost done with my application and have received a nomination. I am getting very upset over the information that I have sent to DODMERB. I have answered everything honestly through my application process. Although I haven't been a man of integrity in my past, I can now say that I am a man of integrity and always plan to be. In the Medical History section of the DODMERB form, I said yes to having used marijuana and alcohol. I used marijuana twice and used alcohol 17 times over the course of 2 years. Peer pressure is what drove these actions and I absolutely hate myself for doing those things. It was torture going through with using those substances, but I have finally overcome peer pressure and NEVER want to use those substances again. I am really worried that I will get disqualified for doing these things. My question is: Do I still have a chance of making it in?

Others have admitted to using such things without negative consequences. I do believe an important factor would be how recently you have used alcohol or marijuana. Also if you had any legal issues such as an MIP. I do not know if the Naval Academy is less forgiving. Beating yourself up for past choices won't influence what happens now. Just focus on the present and the future.
