DoDMERB Issues

Just wondering if anyone may have any info/insight on this topic that our DD has experienced. Last Friday, her BGO officer called my DH because DD was in school. BGO was trying to follow up and see what was happening with her application. BGO somehow found out that USNA had her application "deferred" due to the reason that they have her medical still "pending" but she has completed and been cleared medically by DodMERB since December. There is nothing online that our DD could see where this was missing. She saw that her medical was "Complete Pending Review" but at that point, she thought she had already done her part and it's really up to to USNA to verify it. DH called USNA asap that day and spoke to someone who handles the "medical" part of the application and she said they've been having some "glitches" due to a new computer system. She called DobMERB and verified that our DD was cleared and by that afternoon, her app online reflected it. Our concern now is that when she was "deferred" due to waiting on her medical, but now that has been fixed, where does her application go at this point? Will she be reviewed again or does deferred mean she will be getting the TWE? And also, if she was deferred because of the medical portion, why is it that someone was able to check it this past Friday, verify and change it same day? Was this not checked before they deferred her? Could it had been a problem on DoDMERBS end? She did receive a 4 yr NROTC scholarship to her #1 college choice so we know they were able to get her DoDMERB results and we're so happy for her that Plan B is in place. We're just feeling a little discouraged and wondering what's next especially with April being around the corner. Was wondering if anyone else had this happen to them and outcome? Thank you.

There have been a few posts I have seen about computer issues. Not specifically DoDMRB but overall. We actually had our own, related to NASS. DS received an email that certain pieces were missing, and this was after already receiving confirmation those had been received (emails can from different email addresses). When he followed up, they said he was good and that they were having “computer issues”. Perhaps it’s all related? So I don’t know about your questions other than we also had computer issues. I would suspect USNA is well aware of them. And being prudent. What a pain, as if the processes isn’t difficult enough.

Her application will/has been reviewed and she will have an answer by April 15! As a note to everyone applying your candidate must keep up on the process. Check and double check! USNA admissions is always willing to help and work with candidates.

Agree with prior. DS was medically qualified for the 2017 application cycle, which should be good for 2 years/cycles. He received an LOA in early Feb which says that he just needs his medical qualification. His DoDMERB status says he was medically qualified for USNA in 2017 cycle. After waiting 3 weeks, figuring the USNA/DoDMERB systems just needed a chance to catch up, he finally asks his USNA admissions counselor about it. Well, it turns out that DoDMERB statuses are per application cycle, not per application entity. So he needed a USNA 2018 cycle status. And then there is a "remedial" form you need to submit to authenticate that nothing has changed from last cycle. (Weirdly, he had gotten a NROTC scholarship as well, and DoDMERB had asked for a remedial for that already.) Anyhow, he completed and returned the USNA remedial form immediately upon receipt, DoDMERB acknowledged receipt of the form, and DS emails person in charge of medical at USNA (who had reached out) that he has done so and asks if there is anything else that he needs to do. Waits another 3 weeks hearing nothing back from anyone. Then his admission counselor reaches out asking what his situation is, and if he is still interested in USNA. :yikes:I know DS doesn't want to be overly anxious/pestering, and I get that. It is hard to know if things are just behind and you need to be patient, or if you need to be proactive with your situation. But I truly think that keeping track of your own situation and being proactive about moving it forward could actually be helpful - ?

Sounds identical to ours. DD received a conditional LOA pending waiver review. Portal stated “No Action Needed”. Dodmets portal was unchanged with no R codes. DD waited 5 weeks and finally decided to email admissions rep (in portal). They said that DoDMERB was waiting for a response. DD emailed DoDMERB to find out why R-codes not in Dodmets. 24 hours, R codes posted and DD responded 4 hours later. Told to wait 3 weeks for a decision. 2 weeks later, she got a TWE, but not for rejection, rather the waiver was granted. 24 hours, Appointment followed.

Agreed - Deferred status means either additional explanation is needed or followup medical checks are in order. Our son said he had a positive physical, but suddenly his status changed to Deferred. We were very confused for about a week, and then the DODMERB portal was updated. We quickly got the information in (he'd had a slight knee sprain in football, so clarification was requested, plus he'd failed his hearing test - so we had to have his hearing retested (passed)). We got everything turned in - but it still took about 3 weeks for DODMERB to process/clear/update status. Appointment followed 2 weeks later. Good luck!
