May anyone share your timeline from the time your DS/DD completed their DODMERBs to the time you had visibility that your respective academies received / complete? It's been over a month since our DS completed the DODMERBs and still does not reflect as received / complete from the academies.

I had my physical DODMERB exam in July, and since I wore ortho-k (night contacts), I had to wait three months where I couldn't wear contacts before I could take the eye exam. I took the eye exam at the end of October, and was medically qualified by DODMERB around November 12. It was reflected in my SA portals around November 16. It usually varies from person to person but DODMERB will eventually come around to reviewing your case. Also be sure to check your DODMETS/DODMERB portals for updates/AMI information.

Great! Thank you for sharing. This is helpful.

My understanding is that DODMERB initially evaluates you based on your initial medical exams. You get DQ'd or qualified. This part of experience was quick for DS- he was DQ'd within days of submitting the initial exams. Fairly quickly after that USNA requested a waiver and DS had several more AMI's to complete. Each time DS submitted the results of an AMI, DODMERB seemed to clear the active medical code associated with the AMI quickly. Once all the codes were removed it was about a week or two that USNA granted a waiver. Its been almost a month since all AMI's requested by USMMA were submitted and codes cleared and we have no answer.

Where I am unclear on the process: does DODMERB review the AMIs after a waiver is requested, evaluate and submit an opinion to the Waiver Authority for them to decided to grant or not, OR does DODMERB just collect the data and send to Waiver Authority for them to evaluate and decide?

Pretty sure it's always been said that the Waiver Authority does the work of evaluating and deciding on waivers. DODMERB is pretty much an early screener, a go/no-go thing. Either you meet the requirements or you don't. That's why people have said that each Waiver Authority could come to different conclusions - Army does what's best for Army, Navy does what's best for Navy, and so on.

Dodmerb just collects. Each branch has a different waiver authority. They are very different. I've been told it's based on the jobs they have. Army is the easiest because they have jobs that don't have to be combat ready. AF requires everyone to be combat ready, thus don't waive as much. We didn't realize that when my son applied.
