Hello all,

I was medically disqualified by DoDMERB back in mid-October. From them, I received a letter telling me that if I was deemed competitive by the service academy (in this case, USAFA) that I would be considered for a waiver. Since my disqualification in mid October, my DoDMERB status has read "Under Waiver Review" and has not changed. Does it normally take this long to hear if you are potentially eligible for a waiver? I submitted my USAFA application a few months back, which has a current status of "complete, but medically disqualified. "I have read that this process can take a while, but considering it has been several months I want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Having been through this process, and as others will share as well, each candidate application is unique so there is no "typical" timeline. Some will receive a letter right away from USAFA for example, informing them that a waiver has been requested. Others will wait several weeks, or months, and for many, a waiver is never requested. It just depends on if and when (and all the variables that go into that decision are always changing) a candidate is considered competitive. Since you posted in DoDMERB, Mr. Mullen may check in here. If you haven't already, reading through the DoDMERB forum, including the "sticky" thread on waivers, may be helpful. The wait is certainly not easy, but know that you are not alone.

I can tell you that you are not alone in waiting. My son was medically disqualified on 10/22. We know that at least one academy has requested a waiver for him, uncertain of the exact date that happened but we know it was initiated by Christmas. We’ve heard nothing since in terms of requests for additional medical information, requests to see a specialist, etc. The response, when he tries to follow up, is always to continue waiting. I wish you good luck, being patient about this is not easy!
