Does a principal nom mean that I will get my admissions decision faster?

Due to my principal nomination, will I get my admissions decision faster than regular nomination candidates? (If I’m judged as 3Q)

Yes, usually, it acts like an LOA and a nomination combined. You are 99% assured with a Principal nom and fully qualified. I say that because USNA usually accepts the Principal nom but they don’t have to. As long as you are fully qualified you will be in the first round (whenever they release) of appointment offers. It still might be a while because all noms are being inputted through Jan. 31st and then things will settle a bit. Congratulations!

They award appointments on a rolling basis. I would assume first choice candidates would be quick if they are 3Q, but all other qualifications must be met, and they may also choose to consider the overall make-up of the incoming class. So, it may not be as fast as you think.

Found out yesterday that there is a kid from my district with an LOA who was also nominated by my MOC. Does this hurt my chances of getting an appointment?

No, if you were Principal you would be the 1st pick for appointment (if fully qualified) and the one charged to MOC as slate winner (if you accept.) other candidates on slate for same MOC may also be offered appointments but charged to different nominating source. It will not effect your status at all. USNA has very slight chance to not accept Principal noms but very rare. Congratulations and get ready for life as a mid (if 3q and you want it!)

If you are a Principal Nom and believe you are 3Q, then, focus on other things. Very high likelihood you will be attending USNA...do this:

1. Keep tending plans B
2. Prep for physical intensity of Plebe Summer
3. Have fun
4. Don't post on internet sites that ID you
5. Have fun with family & friends
6. Thank those that helped you get to this point.
7. Remember this is journey not a destination (lots of ups and downs will happen during your 47 months on the Yard).

Go Navy!

My son has received a nomination from our district, assuming it is from our congressmen. My son did not receive an email nor a phone call. However, his portal states nomination received. How do you know if it is a principal nomination or not?
