Does College GPA help at all?

Greetings,

I have decided to apply USMA as a junior in college. My GPA was not so great in high school (being a 3.6). Does anyone know how much they consider college GPA? (I have a 3.9, and I am hoping they might see that as an improvement).

Greetings,

Forgot to mention- Most of my classes are STEM with lab (E.g CHEM 1&2 - Calc - etc..). I am aware they want to see classes that are similar to theirs.

All my experience is watching the admissions process HS to SA. No experience with anyone with prior college.

But this almost looks like a trick question.

How could a SA, assuming the other things like medical etc work out, not be interested in someone taking 2-3 years of college STEM courses and having a nearly 4.0.

I am impressed. And 3.6 HS to 3.9 college sure looks like improvement to me.

Maybe there is something I am missing

There are no "hard facts" but there are past threads with empirical data that SA reapplicants who are academically successful in the first year of college have experienced success at receiving an appointment.

Here is a thread from the USAFA forum on this topic:

A common theme from past posts is that you are mirroring a "Plebe" schedule during your college time. STEM is definitely consistent with this!

Applying after one or more years of college will help your Whole Candidate Score, but most important are your super-scored test scores over the past couple of years. College applicants can still take the SAT and ACT after high school for USMA entrance purposes. I assume as such at the other academies. I deal with a very competitive state where the top high school candidates have 97+ test score percentiles. Candidates with 90+ and below even with college do not have a chance. From my state over the past 4 years, the average super-scored percentile for "offered" candidates is 94+. Our average QNS test score is 90+. And those are pulled down a bit by recruited athletes and candidates from the enlisted ranks. So yes, we would like to see more mature candidates from the college ranks, but it is all about WCS and where you stack up against your competition. Ask your FF Rep or District Coordinator for advice on where you stack up against your competition. Most will give you a frank assessment if you ask for it. Keep pressing on and good luck! Participating in any of the service ROTCs is a big plus if you are applying from college.
