If I were to be nominated for USMAPS rather than USMA then would I see the nomination in the candidate portal?

Do you mean appointed? Nominations are for USMA and then USMA decides if they appoint you to USMAPS, if I'm not mistaken.

I've heard that before. But I've also heard of candidates being nominated to the prep school by their MOC rather than the actual school.

I’ve been to the USMAPS website and they give no information regarding how one gains acceptance, when you would be notified if invited to the prep school. It’s very frustrating!

The "nominated to the prep school by your MOC" is an urban legend. The prep school is for candidates who are not fully qualified, typically academically. Everyone completes the same application process and if you have a weak part of your application you may be considered. It is also for enlisted soldiers to work on getting the academic background.

Now, the MOC or FFR may suggest to the RC that they have a good candidate but that is just a recommendation. Admissions decides who goes to the prep school.

I thought that a nomination was a requirement for being considered for USMAPS?

You don't need a nomination to USMAPS. If you receive an appointment to USMAPS, it will show up in your candidate portal.

My point was that you cannot be nominated to the Prep School. I have heard that saying as well and it is not correct. You are nominated and placed on a MOC's slate. The academy decides if you are qualified. If you are not fully qualified or at "risk" in an area, you may be considered for the prep school. If you are a fully qualified candidate, you are not eligible to attend the prep school.
