I got disqualified from both West Point and Navy, but a week after submitting AMI to Navy I got a waiver and its been over a month since I've submitted AMI to West Point and all I know is that its been processed and recommended to admissions. I was wondering if anybody else has had the same experience and if the academies have different waiver processes

The Academies all have the same "process" in that the Medical Waiver Authority at the specific academy reviews and makes recommendations on waivers to admissions. What differs is the waiver requirements themselves. Each academy determines what is good to waive and what is not, so you can get a waiver from one and denied from another.

Not sure if the Medical Authority's answer is binding on admissions or not, but I believe medical can grant a waiver, but you don't necessarily receive an appointment. Appointments are usually up to the Admissions Boards!

USMA has a two step process for medical waivers. if the condition is potentially waiverable, then the first step is a recommendation to either “Grant” or “Not Grant” from the military physicians at Keller Hospital (located at West Point.) If the doctors recommendation is “Grant” then, unlike other SAs, the waiver is referred back to an admissions waiver committee (made up of staff and faculty from West Point) that reviews the candidate file, medical recommendations and then makes the final decision. If the doctors at Keller do not recommend the waiver be granted the process stops there.

The medical process of all the SAs are similar. The waiver criteria and “needs of the service” will vary. The main difference with USMA is that for most of the SAs, once the medical authorities at the SA recommended the waiver - it is granted. At USMA even after the doctors recommended that admissions grant the waiver, it will still come back to the waiver committee for a final decision. USNA and Naval Reserve granted my DS waivers in a couple weeks last year, USMA took three months!

Thank you so much, I just learned that my case was recommended to admissions. I have an LOA, and my conditions are nonissues and were granted waivers at USNA so I am hopeful that I will the waiver will be granted.
